| In fairness, I don't think anyone does. |

I don't believe someone's personality is necessarily equatable with "what they believe". In all areas of life, I'm interested in people who I enjoy the company of, who entertain me, make me laugh, make me think, teach me things and so on.
Their political alignment, their musical taste, their outlook don't make them likeable. My friends are all so wildly different that my answer has to be: it doesn't matter. |

i would agree with this, but only to a point. if they think that thermite brought down the twin towers i know
1- they're a ing wanker
2- i'll never get along with them
3- ill probably murder them
so there's really no need to try and like them, unless i feel this makes them more trusting and the murder less difficult. |

Well, there's the thing. The guy I met at work who was a conspiracy theorist is still a very cool guy, despite this massive area of disagreement that we can't even broach without starting a massive argument. I still got along with him really well the rest of the time, and I'd still call him a friend. |

well system, that's because you're a better person than i am!
dont get me wrong, i even have a holocaust denier i consider a friend. but only because we never ever talk about it. if they dont talk about it, im cool. but i simply cant cope if they wanna bring it up. |

| I actually rather enjoy having friends like that because you can always spark up a discussion in the presence of new acquaintances, their dates, etc. Hilarious awkwardness typically ensues. |

:stongue:
unfortunately its the opposite for me. he's dating another one of my friends, and ive got to the point where i can barely stand her anymore because of all the ignorant, shallow opinions she has (badly) plagiarised from him. just last night, this highschool dropout was lecturing me on the evils of GM food. you know, because selling beauty products makes you an expert in genetics because you saw this report on aCA (Oz version of fox news). |

Yeah, it's the same with this guy. Last time we got onto conspiracies I smashed his non-logic so utterly he became extremely angry and just devolved to the level of shallow threats and insults. But the fact he's so utterly misguided in that respect doesn't mean I don't get along with him. I'm also pretty lucky because what goes on in an argument for me is totally seperate to my relationship with a person. I can have a raging heated argument with someone and five minutes later buy them a drink. |

im the same, but again, only to a point. ill cut any and all existing friends loads of slack. but if i meet someone for the first time and they're a nutcase, i admit that im less than charitable. that's probably a slur on my own personality, but we all have our crosses to bear! :tongue2 |

Try having a conspiracy theorist family - that'll teach you how to be tolerant in no time :D |
