If by "glorified hallway" you mean Pangaea then yes. It doesn't matter what you think of that club, it still is a club and does very very well. Everyone that looks from the outside in completely forgets about all the over that comes with running a venue. Staff, vendors, djs, utility bills, promoters, everyone that is in the office working all day 6 days a week to make things happen. Its real easy to say book this guy or this guy but at the end of the night you don't see the numbers and have to deal with the downside. When something looks like a great night to you, it actuality it wasn't the greatest night for us.

Example:
Above & Beyond yea it looked like an EPIC ing night to all of the guests!! Yea it was an awesome night of music and a packed house but in reality and business land, bar sales were low. From what we have noticed and other clubs down here have noticed is that the Trance acts come and the bar sales slack. Maybe your doing different things more power to you, do what you want but this is a reason we don't bring acts like this that often. Why would we? when we can book our Residents for a tenth of the cost and do 50% more bar sales and the people love our residents and they pack house just like Friday was packed.

At the end of the day this is a BUSINESS and we do our best to keep the different variety of all our guests happy. Being around for 5 years we are obviously doing something right. 5 years is an eternity, especially for a club down here. Trust me though we will bring a couple more trance acts, it was a good night musically and energy wise in the club was amazing.

Our whole thing is that we like to mix it up genre wise, so that we can please everyone and it gives everyone the opportunity to see what a great venue we have to offer. I know I have been getting calls from people that came on Friday and have been asking what is going on the next couple of weeks. If you were in there last Saturday it was a great night with our Resident Roland, he packs house and holds that dance floor until early in the am hours.

In the past year we have brought a great mix of talent:
-Matt Darey
-Dubfire
-Infected Mushroom
-Cedric Gervais
-Funkagenda
-Patrick M
-Louis Puig
-Timo Maas
-Johnathan Peters
-Serge Devant
-Steve Lawler
-Terry Hunter
-Junior Vasquez
-Danny Tenaglia
-Victor Calderone
-Oscar G
-D:Fuse
-Mark Farina
-Paul Oakenfold
-Trent Cantrelle
-Jojo Flores
-Above and Beyond

We have Chris Lake, Robbie Rivera, DJ Rap, Lee Burridge(TBC), Marco V., Funkagenda, The Crystal Method all coming up. Show me one club down here bringing such a mix of talent across the genres. We cover it all and thats the main reason we have been here for 5 years and hope to be around for another 5 years.

We do hear the people talking and we're gonna work on getting more Trance but as for right now we are booked solid up until August.

IMO that is why the scene has fallen off down here. Everyone is so ing genre picky, oh I'm not going he plays house, I wanna hear trance or vice versa. Everyone wants this and that to happen but only support the venue when they bring what that person wants to hear. More than likely that person will never come to that venue again because they don't like what is played there the other 51 weeks out of the year. Sure I don't like trance but I went out and I enjoyed myself fully last Friday, hell I even caught SVD and PVD during conference, wasn't my cup of tea but I went out and supported and watched and listened to them for a couple of hours, luckily I was at Space and went upstairs and watched, Adam Beyer, Paul Ritch and Ida Engberg destroy the loft and then caught Chus & Ceballos and Mark Knight tagging teaming on the terrace.

I wanna be a pusher for the scene and get it back to where it was in the late 90's, those were fun days! I like going out now and catching acts or genres that I might not listen too. Thats the only way venues will survive.

A good example of this is a couple weeks ago, I wanted to make it down to the Pickle to catch Henrik Schwarz because I've been on this deep house kick, since I've been playing a lot of opening sets. None of my group of friends wanted to go down because they watched videos of him and said they would be bored. In the end I had a couple people on another forum I'm on ranting about how he blew that place up with an amazing live set. The words I heard from people were "Life changing" and now I'm kicking myself for missing that, believe me it won't happen next time. In the end we need to support the venues so that they can continue to bring different acts.

Just my two cents, sorry for the long rant

I have been to Gryphon twice since the club opened the first time for Kaskade and now this past weekend for A&B. I like the club its cool. But for those of us who live in Miami its a mission. If the talent is great, its worth the drive. Unfortunatly if I want to go to a club and see a resident, I much rather do it in downtown or possibly the beach. I want to drink and have fun till the am I dont want to make the drive home from Broward. Most of the people I met at the show on Fri night were from Miami too. Bring the talent and I am there. :)

Timo was great, we had some things go down that week so it was kind of a slow night, but a great night of music.

Yea I forgot to mention Bad Boy Bill. He rocked it on New Years two years back. The guy is a monster!!

As for the bar statement. Sure its tough to get to the bar sometimes but two weeks before we had Victor Calderone in there and sold that event out too and that was a great night for bar sales. It all depends on the crowd and what djs are there. In all honesty A&B water and red bull sales were pretty good, liquor and beer sales not so much. For Victor liquor and beer sales were rocking along with red bull and water.
Wenddy
Well if I have to say, I'll say it...

Most trance listeners are on some sort of substance that makes they consume water and red bull and most house listerners are on coke and drink alcohol to bring their high down but then do another bump when it goes away and need another drink to bring it down lol

regardless, we all would like trance, case in point. We miss it! I saw Acosta at the show and I had a flashback of all the nights I spent listening to him spin at shadow and level and spin then spi and those places were packed week in and week out.

I am sorry but I think Oscar G is crap, I am tired of listening to him. I hate that people in miami think he's a god because that's all they know. If they heard other talent and if other acts were brought in they would soon realize there are so many different artists out there!

I know I have to travel to Orlando and Tampa and NYC and Toronto to catch trance acts, I wish they would just come here to my city or somewhere closer than a 4 hr drive or plane ride.

Btw, in Toronto and Orlando and Tampa there is a cut off for alcohol sales. I know Orlando and Tampa close their clubs early but Guverment in Toronto stays open until 7 am and on and they always are packed. So yes, I get you want liquor sales to soar, but give the people what they want with good music please!

Thats awesome, glad you like the club. I make it down to Miami to see guys I haven't seen, that I've seen or just to support venues and I make that drive back to Broward in the am. Have a couple drinks early and enjoy the music the rest of the night. At least you would be getting out and supporting. I make my way to space every Sunday morning to support my good buddy Patrick M.

When did everything turn into I wanna go out and get ing retarded? Does no one love the music anymore? No one can have a fun night without getting drunk?

So you went to Kaskade and then came for A&B, but you say bring the talent and you would come up more. In that time frame we've had some great talent come through.

-Serge Devant
-Steve Lawler
-Matt Darey
-Dubfire
-Timo Maas
-Funkagenda
-Cedric Gervais
-Jonathan Peters
-Infected Mushroom
-Terry Hunter(one the pioneers of house music in Chicago)
-Miss Nine
-Victor Calderone
-Robbie Rivera
-Patrick M and Louis Puig and myself (shameless plug lol)
-George Acosta
-Noel Sanger

That was a 9 month time period from Kaskade until A&B, out of all those djs listed none of them caught your eye? I guess none of those guys had talent

If you say no, this is exactly what I explained in my earlier post. Everyone is too music specific these days. Why not try and catch one of these guys you may have never seen or haven't seen them in a while.

This is a major reason venues are starting to stop booking major talent. There is no support from our music community! It's another reason why they book joe schmo with his laptop to come play some music because hes cheaper and gets the same results.

Why wouldn't you want to support the local artists? Guys like Roland, Edgar V, George Acosta, Noel Sanger and many more that get ed on bookings down here because there is no support from the local contingent.

Everyone including myself needs to start showing a little more support to these venues and artists. I know no one wants to see the scene die down here, so lets ing support it with our local artists. If we show support that way it gives a reason to these bigger clubs to bring in the big guns.

Just my honest opinion and I'm not speaking about Gryphon in general. There's plenty of places in Miami that are bringing great acts that you probably don't make it out to either, i.e. Electric Pickle, Vagabond and Grand Central to name a few
MeLLyMeL
Cuz I know you are trying to prove a point.. but I wouldn't see 25% of those people you just listed and I am not genre specific.:stongue:

Darey & Lawler.. yes yes and yes

JP,Calderone & Robbie = Jersey SHore - no thanks.

IM.. if I wanted a rock concert - I'd go to one.

Space Residents - I wouldn't drive to Ft Laud to see 'em

Now your final paragraph I agree. EP has some bomb ass bookings. Matt Tolfrey owns and I am completely saddened that I won't be there for it cuz Rebel Rave in Miami was just massive.

You say to bring more Trance acts well in less than 9 months we have brought:

Paul Oakenfold
Matt Darey
Serge Devant(not as trancey as he was a couple years back)
Infected Mushroom(Psy-Trance)
Noel Sanger
George Acosta(He played a pretty trancey set when we had him in there the last time)
Above & Beyond
We have Marco V. coming(You'll say he doesn't really play trance anymore and thats exactly what I'm saying genre picky. Just because the guy throws some techy elements in his music now, you write him off as not being trance)

So tell me how many other venues have brought that much trance for you?

So you don't like OG, you say people act like he's God. The guy ing deserves to be worshiped. Those old mainroom sets at Space were legendary, Oscar is one of the pioneers of Space, along with Ivano, Edgar, Roland and now Patrick is taking over that responsibilty. OG is one the best turntables around and he always puts on a great show.
Donnie Gryphon

Whats funny is all three of those shows have been no where near Jersey Shore status. We draw a little nicer crowd than the usual places that bring those guys.

Victor was straight packed with beautiful girls and I honestly saw about 20 meatheads in there, nothing against them they like the music and they support.

JP was slammed too, I didn't make it in that night because I couldn't find parking.

Robbie had a great looking crowd also

Infected Mushroom was a dj set full on Psy Trance and it was insanity

The greatest thing about the old days was that you would go out to a party and it was a place where everyone could come together: gays, straights, girls, guys, fat bitches, skinny bitches, fat dudes, skinny dudes, drag queens, transvestites, meatheads and everything in between. Nobody gave a , you were there for the music and to have a good ing time. Now we all bitch, there's gonna be jersey shore dudes there, there's gonna be to many gays or lesbians blah blah blah blah if you love EDM support it. Thats what makes the night so much fun, seeing all these different characters gathered together in one room to support the music!! I love Space just for that reason, its always a fun party with the craziest mix of people.

need I remind you that I'm the one that told you you guys are bringing in Marco V? Lol I know what he plays, I am excited to see him.

This website is called TranceAddict! Yes all types of music are discussed here but the majority on here love trance.

All the space people you mentioned are crap to me so let's just drop the subject there. We all are expressing who we would like to see and since you are a promoter for gryphon, who seems to be the only club as of late that are bringing acts we want to see, we are telling you so you can inform the club and hopefully they will listen.

Also, charging as much as you did for above and beyond was pretty ty. $50? Yes I know people paid it because we wanted to see them but try not to do that for all other trance shows just because you guys know we are desperate for trance. I know it's all about the money in the end, you guys are running a business after all, but for that don't book shows then anymore. I rather pay $ for a flight on spirit to Orlando and pay $10 for entrance for Ferry for example than pay $ for oakenfold at gryphon and it cost me the same about and sorry but Ferry > Oakey.
FallingMoon
lol damn people give the bloake a chance! geez! at least trance was even brought down here outside of WMC and a place OTHER than ing Space.

I am all for more trance acts but you're taking it out on him like if he's in charge and makes final decisions. I'm sure he can give suggestions but it can't be THAT easy. It also has to do with the PR people of these DJ's.

If it were Space, I'm sure it could be easier but this is Gryphon we're talking about - they've only recently tapped into this trance booking business.

I'm hoping it happens and we can get more trance booked. I'm very tired of PvD being the only time "trance" can be seen down here and at Space - I'm so ing tired of that club already.

But srsly give Donnie a break & lets see what happens.
Above & Beyond was an AWESOME night - hoping for more of those.

While Marco V isn't generally trancey anymore, I'm down to go. I saw him 3 years back during WMC @ The Fifth and I dug his set.

Do you forget that tickets were $25? Sure we sold them for more the day prior to the event and FYI they were $40 for GA and $50 for VIP. We sold over 400 tickets before the price went up. There were people offering $75 to $100 to get in that night.

Thanks for telling me about Marco V., I did that booking and it was finalized that day you told me so I couldn't say anything but hey you got it up first.

Thats funny all the space people are crap to you. If it wasn't for Space and their residents the scene here would be dead.

Ferry>Oakey
Thats exactly what I'm saying we bring trance and then you bitch about it because its not Corsten its not PVD its not SVD its not whoever but give us credit for bringing trance to the people. Oakenfold was $25 at least its in the area.

I read in the other thread with Christopher Lawerence from someone saying the music is too out there its Psy-Trance, at least its trancey and its something close for you Trance heads. At least Pat said hes gonna try and make it to support. Thats the attitude everyone with EDM needs to have to make this work.

You are so missing the point. Do you forget where you are posting? This isnt facebook. This Website is called Tranceaddict Forum. Hmmm do you think we like trance music....well maybe?

The artists who you mentioned above are also great artists. Who happen to also come to Miami Clubs and events. Personally, I hardly ever look at any of the Clubs in Broward for schedules or events. If I happen to hear about something and I don’t already have something else going on, I will check it out. But, like you said, there are sooooo many places to go that are closer to home (and I know I am talking about for myself only here) to support. It’s not because I need to be careful when I drive. I don’t have to be intoxicated to attend anything and have an amazing time. I just hate driving home 45 minutes from Hard Rock. lol!

I applaud Gryphon for trying to introduce multiple genres of music for everyone’s enjoyment. I personally enjoy various different types of music, and showing my support for all of them. It excites me to see Gryphon stick their neck out there for Trance music. We all know its not like the old days. If it weren’t for the fact that you had Kaskade a few months ago and of course A&B. I swear I wouldn’t even have known that Gryphon wasn’t like Passions and play freestyle and hip hop.
