Much like my Balkan brother Moongoose, I got a sex education book for kids at an early age so never really needed any sex education.
I don't see what the point of keeping sex from kids is. It's not like if you teach a 5 year old how a baby is born, all of a sudden they will start having sex at 12.
Sex education should be a support tool to help kids make good decisions and drum into their heads how important protection is if they are going to do it.
I fully support programs like that.

nope. just because somebody has enough free time to read a book or paint a picture or write a song, does not mean they're suddenly pushing boundaries that have an effect on the whole of mankind. somebody can easily further themselves intellectually without having the slightest influence on anyone else. it is rather easy to distinguish between notable "achievements" like the ones you listed, and mere personal improvement or awareness.

Just because someone receives sex education, does not mean that they aren't still going to go out and selfishly produce a half dozen offspring, further contributing to overpopulation of the planet.
Just because someone is made aware of environmental issues, does not mean that they're going to stop buying mountains of cheap crap that will end up in a landfill site in less than a year's time.
Just because someone is told of the benefits of eating a balanced, healthy diet, does not mean that they're going to stop drinking a litre of pop a day and stuffing themselves with over-processed, empty-calorie garbage, further burdening health care systems that are already stretched to the limit.
You claim individual knowledge has improved in the last 70 years - if that were indeed the case, we should be considerably more enlightened as a whole. If individual knowledge has indeed improved, then we're making piss-poor use of it.

Well, when they took it away in Texas, teen pregnancy rates skyrocketed.
I'm White (not like that matters cause there is white trash everywhere) and I am NOT racist in fact I wanted to be Hispanic so I wouldn't get picked on and I could feel like I fit in threw my younger years, anyhow I live in a 80% to 85& Hispanic city and seeing a 25 year old with 3 to 4 kids on welfare is a common site around here. San Antonio is like a little Mexico (the poor and uneducated part of Mexico also)
My friend moved to Seattle with his kids cause he has a great job, at least by my standards, makes around 100,000k a year plus wife works but he was a drop out and fell into a trade school at moved up the The Boeing Company ranks. He moved 2 years ago to Seattle for a bigger promotion and his kids were all A students here in San Antonio and when they went to Seattle they all turned to C and D students. San Antonio is way lower south than Dallas and Houston as I'm sure ya'll know that.
We have illegal aliens galore, I can walk 20 feet from my house and find a bum sleeping or begging for change, or a nasty ass hooker getting out of a car. I'm just taking care of my Grandma till she dies, she is 83 now then I'm going to school and booking out of Texas or maybe just another city. But I've lived in this neighborhood all my life, I know a lot of people here but it has progressively gotten worse over the last 10 years so I'll probably be booking.

I also wanted to make a point of saying that teaching kids about sex when they are already sexually active is a little moronic. AND as it was already said, the more sexual education, the less unwanted pregnancies and STDs. So perhaps they wont "take a sex ed class and not anymore or make stupid decisions", but more of them will make smarter decisions about it.
when you were 8 you were playing with toys, trust me, there is a difference talking about sex with your best bff and learning anatomy, it is an adult subject for a reason because i will repeat this again at the age of 8 YOU WILL NOT take the subject seriously = will not teach you . It's like teaching a child economics, they don't give a , do you get it now? There is a time and place when something should be learned. Now you go ahead and teach an 8 old about sexual reproductive organs and i will watch and laugh, thanks.

I think sexual education should start as early as 7 and all the way to 15 at least. Obviously starting out with the anatomy, moving up to the functions (periods, masturbation etc.) and then onto intercourse, oral/anal sex, STDs and how to be safe. Although I think it would awesome if they discussed sexual positions, fetishes and sex toys etc. too, I don't think that will ever happen, or at least not any time soon.
sounds like Brave New World

who cares? my point was that on the whole, your average human is filled with more information than that same human a few hundred years ago. and by implication, this provides people with the opportunity to make informed decisions.
nothing is ever going to stop human greed or selfishness. so let's get that part out of the way. unless we learn to cleanse our spirit, the trauma will not go away.

I care, you obviously don't. Which means that your "point on the whole" is pretty much useless rhetoric.
Moongoose
So some are saying that it should be up to the parents to explain to the kids about sex, or that the kids should educate themselves about it when the time is right. And then i happen upon this news bit. A bit of an extreme case i admit, but a nice pointer on how thing can go if you leave education to the parents or kids themselves.

On the same train of logic, kids don't give a about French, or Math either, but we teach it to them anyway.
If we teach about sexuality and sex earlier, it wont be a taboo/funny subject to them because it will be like every other subject. It will get ignored (or paid attention to), just as much as any other subject. It seems that we get through to a lot of kids that age with math, so I am pretty confident we would get through to them about sex too.
You're basically saying "these kids don't give a , so don't bother", and with that attitude, you might as well say that you shouldn't be educating kids at that age at all.
