It's very well explained by the fact that the traits are not unique, they apply to somewhere between 2/3 and 3/4 of the population, and the ones who it doesn't apply to will just ignore it and fixate on some other "bang-on" trait.

Not hard, since Astrology considers you to be compatible with about 2/3 of the population (usually 3 "yes" and 3 "no" signs, which means 6 "neutral" which count as "compatible").
There's a 75% chance that at least 1 in 5 will be considered a "match" by astrology, and over a 90% chance that 1 in every 2 will be at least a neutral match. Take into account confirmation bias and emotions that are easily influenced by the discovery of a "match" and it's almost impossible not to find this pattern in your life - if you believe in it.

Hahah I just had an astrology conversation at fw this weekend. While I don't believe in the day-to-day (or monthly) forecasts, I find that the descriptions about each sign tend to be accurate. And maybe its just because they are so broad - but regardless they are great tool for conversation and giving you a different way too look at yourself.
I always find when you start talking about signs with a person you've just met you end up getting into a much deeper, personal conversation than you would have otherwise.

I'm pretty sure anyone who knows me and knows general leo tendencies would agree I am 100% leo. However this sex version seems to only be partly correct. |

Every profile is "bang-on", because they are written in such vague and open-ended terms that whoever is reading them can always interpret them as being correct for them.
If you don't think that's true, then prove it; find a bunch of them, take away the actual signs, and pick which one is yours. Try it with a few different "authoritative" sources. I'm not even asking you to prove it to me; do it for your own benefit, so you don't end up wasting any more time on superstitious junk like astrology. |
