The point of cheese is to make money. Listen to all the stuff atb did after 9pm till i come. He just used that guitar sound again and again, of course to make money. Same with darude and others. These people sicken me. Compare signum to darude... Signum have made like 15 tunes, yet almost every one is powerful. But darude on the other hand blurts out 20 pieces of every year knowing that loads of people will buy it. Signum could do the same, but theyre in it for love of music and not money, so the quality by far outweighs the quantity.
Cheese is really just pop made to sound trancy so that the uninformed think it is trance and buy it. Its just the same chord progressions used over and over (the cheesy ones) with a beat behind it and vocals on top. Hardly any effort goes into the production of it, mainly because there r maybe 5 different sets of chord progressions used in all these songs so it only takes a few minutes to write the tune, but also because the quality of the production is . Same old basslines, hats, kicks, pads etc
None of it has any originality at all and it just pisses me off basically. |

| The song actually is pretty old, it came out around the year 2000, when the homeofmusic.com site was still up.. and well, it was pretty unknown and it rocked in ITS beggining time, but sadly, radio stations have played the Castles in the Sky and Will I soooo much that damm, sometimes I go and think why some outsiders dont like trance .... or misunderstand trance ( thay have no idea on commercial trance and the undeground ) sooo thats up. But the album does have some songs which I like, maybe cause I have never listened to them and is different material, but as of now I like many of the songs In it. |

may as well throw in my 2 cents. Ian Van Dahl is a disgrace to trance. I personally dont classify this group as trance, more as pop and ty dance, etc, but they somehow find there way onto club compilaitions and . But the reason i find them such a disgrace to the music genre i love so much, is because.... when u tell people who are into rock, garage, r&b, etc. that you are a fan of trance, they think u mean groups like ian van dahl and milc (is it milc or milk, meh give a ), and cheese like that. So thats what pisses me off about Ian Van Dahl, and other cheese groups. Non-trance fans think there is nuffing more to trance than ian van dahl..

:nervous: :eyespop: :happy2: :haha: :D ;) :sadgreen: :wtf: |

cor...this thread could just run and run couldnt it? it really goes a lot deeper than just ian van dahl, so i feel a bit sorry he's been used as an example here coz i still think his productions are quite good ;) now if you were to slate something...how about DJ "f***ing!" Otzi!:stongue:
i think that every genre of music needs its sellout, if anything to recruit new people to the scene. i got into dance music through hearing Capella:happy2:,2 Unlimited and the Deep Heat and Kaos Theory compilation series when i was about 12ish....i bet at the time there were the diehard ravers thinking "this dance compilation crap sucks because its available for everyone/kids to hear and doesnt feel like our own personal scene anymore...its not the real music". maybe they got mad to see me as a kid running around shouting "techno!, techno!, techno! (2 unlimited famous line)" because 2 Unlimited wasnt what they classed as techno...but over ten years on, funnily enough, as part result of their music, i have been a massive supporter of the dance music scene and piled a hell of a lot of money into it, as you all have.
IMO you should give respect to chart trance simply for the fact that it promotes interest in the genre one way or another. and the fact is, its keeping the UK club scene alive at the moment by making newcomers that may have seen an IVD, Lasgo, Dee Dee track on The Box and goes to Global Gathering as a result to hear some similar (to them) stuff...then the education begins :D
its just progression of the industry...it doesnt affect the underground stuff in any way other than to make it better! take it or leave it :D ;) |

Yawn :
Is it just me or does Ian Van Dahl remind anybody else of the late 80's British dance sound? Like they're copping beats from old Pet Shop Boys records or something. The lyrics are banel, but the vocals are good. |

Well said Mikey, the problem is that they think ivd is trance, eg
person 1 - what are you into ?
person 2 - trance
person 1 - so like ian van dahl then ?
Kill the bastards lol :whip: |

IvD's stuff falls under the trance genre, mainly the remixes though.
When you guys says it's not trance, you just mean 'Oh well, its not underground enough, so it must be crap, and thereby, NOT trance'
Sheesh, get a grip  |

| I'd say that Ian van Dahl is borderline trance. The original mixes of his songs are definitely pure cheese, and I don't particularly like any of them. However, there are some good remixes of Ian van Dahl, especially Ian van Dahl - Will I (Flutlicht Remix). |
