| I love the birds chirping and sun shining wake up. I just prefer a natural wake up to begin with. Our window is mostly shaded by a huge maple tree, so it's never ridiculously bright in the am - just enough to gently rouse me from sleep. I wake up around 9 every day without an alarm - even if I go to bed pretty late. |

It's a bit frustrating when you get older, though. Society is made of a bunch of lark-wannabes.
"Early to bed" and "early to rise" make Jack a dull boy! |

except for drinking guarana, is there anything you do to up your concentration/awakeness? sugary stuff(cookies n stuff)?
drugs don't count. |
1. A good night of sleep.
2. Triple-shot coffee
3. Energetic music.
Works for me when I had to stay up late in the uni library studying. But make sure you drink the triple shot 6-8 hours before you know you are going to sleep, otherwise, you won't sleep. You'll probably have little to no sleep anyways. |

| Birds chirping and the sun shining through the blinds is exactly what gets me sleepy. |

when pulling all nighters i'd down lots of water since i didn't drink coffee/soda. Cold water is quite refreshing, drink it a lot and it gives you excuse to at least walk around a bit to the bathroom.
side note, i hate that horrible feeling you get after being hunched over at the computer all night long, like that weird pain in your core. just feels miserable. |

Some pretty good advice in this thread. I'll repeat some and add a few:
- Stay cold rather than warm.
- Exercise in short intervals (i.e. run on the spot for two minutes every hour)
- Don't drink energy drinks early. You'll go up, then crash horribly.
Use them when you're near the end of your task (last two hours).
- Eat lots of protein-rich food. It keeps your brain functioning well.
- Eat apples. They contain a natural stimulant with no crash.
- Guarana...my recent experience is that on it's own (i.e. not in Red Bull), this is a far superior version of caffeine which you could take for hours and get good results. Not entirely sure though.
- If you start struggling to stay awake early, have a supply of sugary food on hand, such as jelly babies. As long as you have an adequate supply, you can stay awake indefinitely by being on a sugar high. I once did 50 straight hours using this. I have diabetes now though.
- Drink lots of water. |
