| Not only does Myspace seem all but dead but it seems the very mention of it offends certain people. Like its so yesterday how dare you even speak of it! Not sure if it can ever return to glory but I hope at least they give it their best effort. |

All facebook needs is a "music" tab, bam. |
You can add the soundcloud app, then you have a "Tracks" tab, bam!:D |

It wouldn't surprise me if the sheer amount of spam MySpace spouted out was too much to take for most people. |
facebook apps are getting as bad as myspace spam though. |

Yeah, I don't get that. Yes, the spam is obnoxious, but it's still a viable medium and probably will be for some time to come. But, it does feel like a bit of a ghost town with mostly just other musicians hanging around (to me, at least).

You just helped a friend in a duel and have been given an award. Claim your reward before it expires. Hurry.
I don't even participate in these things. How could I have helped anyone in a duel and wouldn't it have offered an unfair advantage since, by definition, a duel is limited to two people? |

I think what killed myspace, besides the rise of Facebook, was their music player kept evolving into an innaccessible, unnattractive, chore to use pile of . Both for the user and for the artists that were important evangelists of the site.
Accessible music is what made myspace attractive to people, once the player started getting tampered with, the downhill decline began to build steam. Facebook does'nt even have a useful music player, and it took over. It shows how useless the new music players are for both artists/producers to champion myspace by linking their myspace where possible, and for the users to regularly listen to music or customize their myspaces constantly through a new piece of music they find on myspace. Also screwing with the view counts made the music based sites lose interest in pushing their myspace.
Myspace is now run by people that did'nt know a key ingredient to its success: the unsupressed sharing of music and videos. |

With all that said, is Myspace still valuable and can it make tons of money? Sure. But it needs a change in management, a change in thinking, a different outlook towards social networking. And they should bring back a music player that makes the developers of music excited about evangelising the site again, and a player that incites users to start using the site again to pimp their taste and most liked music. And maybe the multi song player was a mistake, it disrupted things, because it created a have and have not between users, and not everyone felt like participating in the whoring of 4-8 songs, 1 song was fair game. A two song player would work well though. If a user likes the first song in a player, a good chance they will have enough patience to click the second song, but not much more than that. And the chooser will have enough space to post their current favorite song, and an alternate.
Mother******s should hire people like me, market analysts, philosophers, or unjaded psychologists. :whip: |

Personally I can't stand using Myspace because of the constant spam and f@cking twitter feeds, the e player quality (I know you can embed but why don't they just allow decent quality streaming?!) and the proliferation of the use of the word 'sick' as a descriptive word of appreciation.
The flip side of the discussion about where to best host your music is possibly the individual artist not being willing to pay for a well run and high quality service. Soundcloud obviously offers an excellent free service, but the cost to them to expand that service into a publically aware non muso only site would be enormous.
The only other site that came close to offering something decent was T61, who had pages similar to myspace with decent quality streaming where listeners could assign hearts (hmmm) as 'favourites' to certain tracks which pointed newcomers to the site towards decent stuff. Then they completely changed the format last year and now it's just a complete mess. |

Anyone else noticed the addition of some clicks and pops here and there on your music uploaded into soundcloud?? Almost sounds like too much compression has been added.
I've tried it on several of my tracks and it still happens and before someone suggests its my mastering I tried it on a few released tracks (not mine) and got the same result.
It's the single reason I dont use soundcloud as a promotional tool. |

I see, I was under the impression it uploaded at a decent bitrate. Cheers, I'll have to start using it more than myspace, simply because the interface is better. Shame about the bitrate that could have been one massive improvement over the myspace player, but I suppose like all such sites they are limited by storage space and knock bitrates down accordingly. |

the other way around it is to uplaod some tunes to a free music site like http://www.gogoyoko.com/#/store
here you can promote yourself so people know where to find your tunes and buy them if they want to. |
