we paid 300$ for it because we promised them that we woul.d not fix him.
I will eventually get my license, but for now we just rent out his sperm. I only have males at the moment.
our breeder is about 45 minutes north of montreal. |

so you get paid by people who want you to breed him with their cats? How do you find those people... do you advertise? |

i go to shows and meet people online.
my gf and i have a policy, we don't breed with people who run mills or are obviously in it just for the money.
for now this works great logistically, as i don't have to worry about taking care of kittens (which is costly even if our vet gives us deals), and finding proper homes for them.
we have the room now that we got a house...but to set up a cattery properly so that it does not disrupt the normal living in the home will take time and a bit of capital. |

hmm... that's interesting. I'm kind of wishing I didn't get my male cat fixed now, knowing how much people spend on bengals. I could have made a lot of money off that bastard! I assume when you go to the shows to promote your cat's 'services' you have your papers with you from your breeder to verify the legitimacy?
Yeah I heard setting up a cattery and all that... profits don't start out-gaining the costs for about 3 years. |

i have papers and he also has a chip implanted in him. this is common practice nowadays with pedigree cats as to avoid fraud (which is big business...because many people will throw money at things they have no clue about).
the procedure is done when they are babies and it takes a second.
if you don't do this nowadays, you can't expect to be asked to have your cat breed with any legitimate breeder. |

yeah I got the chip put in the same time I got them declawed at 6 months old. |

| don't feel bad about fixing your cat though, he will live longer because of it. It is the sacrifice you make when you decide not to neuter. |

oh really? I didn't know that... how much longer on average do neutered cats live? In that case I'm cool with it- I want that guy to live as long as possible. |

i can't throw out a statistic off the top of my head, and it isn't always the case, but in general animals that breed repeatedly tend to live a little shorter. Add in the "pure bread" equation and you have to watch out. Just like with dogs, most pure bred cats are more prone to genetic disorders and are a little more sensitive to disease than a cat that is mixed.
every race is different of course, and they all have their own genetic predispositions.
for instance, our sphinx is prone to certain liver conditions moreso than other cats because of the extremely limited gene pool available. (see: accidental inbreeding, it happens quite a bit) |

from what I've read, pure bread Bengals are prone to issues with their vision. |
