Wouldn't this be a lot easier if we had a diagram to scale, and possibly the measurements of the couch and TV?
+1 putting the center speaker above the TV, it makes a surprising difference if you've never done it before :p |

In an ideal world that is exactly how I'd want it. However, I made mention in my post that the width of the room is very small. Ignore the length of the diagram below for a minute as I know the proportions are all wrong, but if I was to arrange it like you've done it would actually look more like this:
The sofa would be too close to the TV and the small gap between would just look silly.
Unfortunately I won't have the exact measurements until I move in on Friday/Saturday so I can't do a proper to scale diagram. I have just found a picture though on the house brochure. This is how the previous owners had it set up:
It's a shame because all the other rooms in the house are massive. |

| If you're prepared to spend a small amount of money, you could rip the wall open, put some extra studs in there and then build a simple partially recessed storage cavity which actual sits inside the wall. I assume the walls aren't masonry? Then you could mount the TV above that and have all the cables nicely concealed inside the wall. It wouldn't cost that much, and you could sell your existing TV cabinet. |

do u have a tv that can be mounted on the wall? if so that clears up a lot of space..some nice wallbrackets to hold up ur surround/cable box/video game systems etc..

I really like the look of that. How exactly do you get the cables to go behind the wall though? And how expensive is it to do? And how much of a ball ache is it to change if a cable needs replacing? And what sort of work are you looking at if you want to take the TV down and put it all back to normal? Questions, questions, questions.
Those long shelves underneath for the boxes look really nice too. I am designing a rather elaborate media centre so would probably end up filling both of those long shelves with equipment. Could end up looking rather sexy. |
