i agree about his stage presence, or lack thereof. he doesn't really move around and all he does is take both hands up. i understand that not all dj's showboat on stage but it definitely adds to the experience.
SillySilvia
the space in the booth was kinda tight, not much room to move around.

there's still room. i've seen sander 4 times and he's always like this.

Yeah i was watching the live video feed and it looked like there was plenty of room for him to move around/jump/dance/etc... Haha, although some of the comments in the chatroom said his body movements made it look like he was having sex with the decks, lol.

My review:

The good:
Got in for $15 bucks on guest list
Open Bar, drinks were good
Sander played well as usual, great energy.. having sex with decks? haha
Fei Fei was just as excellent in the side room, love the smiles

The Bad:
Hearing the open bar tender bitch about how he doesn't work for free when I have cash in hand.. just bad customer service.

The crowd, just way too crowded.. but that's Avalon for you right.. club humping :P

Annoying ass Armos in the lousy VIP trying too hard to party...its like man.. Yeah I don't want to feel your douchey vibe man.

Patio's, guess mainly for smoking cause I got a lot of second hand smoke. Oh yeah, and it started to smell like feet during the second hour, guess its the carpet, lack of showered peeps or whatever, my wife agrees.

Overall decent, I will wait another 4 years to go back. I'm glad they made some some upgrades to the place.

Yeah I stayed til the end of the set; overall I had a great time especially because I was able to go in the VIP section behind the stage...

But I'm not going to Avalon as much anymore. I have to vent a little.

There are just too many damn Armos/Persians and Asians (not a racist comment; just describing the majority of the crowd. If most people at Avalon that night were white, I'm sure similar problems would have ensued) on tons of drugs with no respect for others. After about 4 the main floor had a lot more room and yet every 10 minutes or so my girlfriend and I were shoved by an incredibly sweaty shirtless or clothed male who had plenty of room to go around but was clearly too ed up to do so. Furthermore there was about a 10:1 guy:girl ratio.

Found it fairly hard to enjoy myself on the main floor and so we retreated to the VIP section which was better and calmer but didn't have the energy of the main floor.

So basically going VIP for the massives has become a necessity for me in order to avoid high school kids and now at clubs it's becoming a necessity in order to avoid adults who can't handle themselves.

I wish Avalon, at the least, would enforce a shirt-on policy and chastise people who dance without regard for others (AKA shuffle step s who bump into everyone standing around them... and of course washers).

It's getting hard to be an EDM fan, honestly, with so many people treating it as a drug/alcohol experience and not a musical experience.

This is the statement of the year.

Isn't it?

I mean, I got into trance by listening to Robert Miles's "Dreamland" album on road trips with my family during middle school. I'd just stare out the window and daydream. It had nothing to do with drugs or booze, it didn't even have anything to do with dancing at the time. It was dreaming music.

It's like the kids that go to see their favorite band and they HAVE to smoke up to enjoy it. Like they start taking hits as soon as the first song starts... I'm like dude, can't you just enjoy the music for a minute?

I mean I'm not a saint, I normally do drink at events, sometimes I get a pretty drunk, but there's been times when I'm the DD for others, and I can still sip on a soda and have a great time listening to the music.

Why pay the big money to see a big DJ if you just wanna get messed up? Won't any DJ do at that point?

You were there?? I didn't see you but I didn't get to Avalon until around 3:30am (after a typical Avalon list nightmare at the door  ). I enjoyed Sander's set but not as much as I normally do. I don't know if I was just tired or he was playing too much fluff like he did on Thursday at Sutra.

It was definitely a nasty, shirtless sausagefest inside and I know some people left after just a few minutes because of the vibe. I haven't been to Avalon in ages so I was a bit suprised to see the same bouncers at the door but some of them had some grey hair now :p

Johnny: So much fun partying with you and the gang! :D
