But I'm not going to Avalon as much anymore. I have to vent a little.
There are just too many damn Armos/Persians and Asians (not a racist comment; just describing the majority of the crowd. If most people at Avalon that night were white, I'm sure similar problems would have ensued) on tons of drugs with no respect for others. After about 4 the main floor had a lot more room and yet every 10 minutes or so my girlfriend and I were shoved by an incredibly sweaty shirtless or clothed male who had plenty of room to go around but was clearly too ed up to do so. Furthermore there was about a 10:1 guy:girl ratio.
...
I wish Avalon, at the least, would enforce a shirt-on policy and chastise people who dance without regard for others (AKA shuffle step s who bump into everyone standing around them... and of course washers).
|
The only people my friends (most are Asian) and I really got annoyed by was the dozen or so 40+ year old Asians at the front left of the stage who treated the dance floor as their own playground with no respect for the personal space of others. I got bumped so many times that I retreated to other parts of the club most of the night.
I don't care if people take drugs at a club as long as they don't turn into a-holes. Most people on drugs at Avalon were quite nice (e stands for empathy), but it only takes a few out of control people to make the night much less enjoyable. |

I have plenty of friends who take drugs responsibly; drugs aren't the problem whatsoever.
It's people who either abuse them, or use drugs as an excuse to act like idiots.
I honestly can stay up, without drugs, and listen to EDM all night. I was Amnesia in Ibiza dead sober by 2 AM and stayed there til 6 AM on my feet the entire time; I loved it.
I know people who can't spend 30 min in an EDM club without taking a pill or getting ridiculously wasted in some other way.
That's the difference. And the 2nd type is, in my opinion, 80% of the people at the events lately. We're so lucky to have the world's top talent come by and people don't respect it at all.
Can anyone speak to Europe or Asia being the same way or is it different? Some events look like sausage fests (any mediterranean country such as Greece, and events in England especially *cough* ASOT 400 videos *cough*) but ultimately more people seem to enjoy the music and respect the DJ... or am I just romanticizing it and this issue is the same worldwide? |

| its always funny how Avalon review threads end up talking about washers and other druggies. kinda sad really since I had a lot of fun at Avalon in the past. |

You had the priviledge of hanging out in the VIP areas though, which makes a big difference at Avalon. I know I would've been quite miserable last Saturday if I hadn't had the right wristband (of course it's much worse for girls than guys at Avalon). |

| i honestly had no problem with the crowd at all, yea there were a lot of asians but it doesn't really bother me.didn't really encounter any rude people and whoever i talked to was nice. then again, this is only my 2nd time there so maybe avalon is still new to me. |

It's getting hard to be an EDM fan, honestly, with so many people treating it as a drug/alcohol experience and not a musical experience. |
don't forget to include that some "girls" may not have always been girls or merely dress as girls! (SD>LA when it comes to fellatio ratio)
Luckily i did find one female ;)
as for the drugs...ya, its bad. dea should post up at avalon. |

The number of Asians wasn't a problem (most of my friends who went Avalon this Saturday were Asian :P), but in my experience the only two times I have been to Avalon (Markus in late May, SvD this past Saturday) the vast majority of the rude people were 40+ year old, Asian, and in the front left of the stage. |

You say that you are OK with people taking drugs, but then lament that so many people take drugs at EDM events. If 80% of the people are on drugs at an EDM event and being considerate, are you still OK with that?
Are you including alcohol as a drug? If you do (people forget that alcohol is a regulated drug), I would be surprised if there are many major music events in the world where only 80% of the people are consuming at least one drug.
Regarding the videos for major music events (like ASOT 400), the video editors are not going to include video of high/drunk people because it would look bad. From my experience at EDC the past three years, ~75% of the patrons are high on ecstasy, weed, or some other illegal drug... ~90% of the patrons consumed an illegal or legal (alcohol) drug. But if you look at the promotional videos, such as this video for EDC 2009, everyone seems wacky but sober. |

It was my first time at Avalon and I have to admit, it was fun but way more crowded than I like it to be at a club event. Sander played a very good set; his intro was very epic and grand. In the beginning, myself and the girl I went with were chilling behind the dance floor, and were looking to go down, but everywhere we stood you had people just moving in and out trying to get around, which got annoying fast. We ended up just chilling upstairs for the majority of the night until it got too hot and we had move to different area to cool down.
Avalon is a cool venue and I'd like to go again, but I'd much prefer to go to Circus, seems to have a better overall vibe there. Still, I had tons of fun and Sander rocked it, so can't really complain. |

There is more room to move around at Circus and I rarely see out of control washers (the washers at Circus generally do not cause problems). High people seem to be much more aggressive at Avalon than at Circus in my experience... Circus is much more PLUR-y than Avalon.
But like you said, Avalon is a nice venue and the production was pretty nice. |

You were there?? I didn't see you but I didn't get to Avalon until around 3:30am (after a typical Avalon list nightmare at the door  ). I enjoyed Sander's set but not as much as I normally do. I don't know if I was just tired or he was playing too much fluff like he did on Thursday at Sutra.

yea we left right before that. funny thing...Tom Novy showed up and I chatted with him for a sec(hey, like your style blah blah blah, saw you my first time blah blah blah). hubby and I left, we were looking for someone outside to see if he was doing his job(but forgot he wasnt even in town) and Tom and his friend just left too and were about to grab a cab but we offered them a ride back to their hotel. he was a bit drunk:stongue: and he might have ruined a "transaction" that was happening on a bus stop bench between a man and a lady. :haha: :haha: he shouted something like "I dont think the bus runs this late"(330am) my hubby and I were like you just ruined it for her, she was trying to seal the deal. :haha: :haha: |
