Stuck in a rut regarding wether to move forward on a project....but a good rut...

So, my favorite track ever produced (from any style of music period) is Piledriver from Andy Gray (link below)

Well, after long talks I've acquired rights to remix and release but good lord it's intimidating after going back and hearing how great this track was/is. Going to have some top shelf remixers on the project, but I'm still in doubt Andy's mix will ever be topped. Comes off to me as being one of those tracks that is just too good and too unique to be remixed; however, I could be bias'd. That's where this post comes in.....Just wondering what you guys thought? How could you envision remixing this piece? I may give it a shot myself, but it's so hard to imagine this track out of its element and sounding even remotely as good.

Regardless, I'm stoked and it's a good problem to have :) It'll be a good package even if it takes me 6 months to get it together. For those of you who have been around you know how big this tune was.

after hearing the track for the first time, I think I'd go for a breakbeat remix.

I was hoping it'd be something I could give a shot, but my style wouldn't fit with this at all. I can see you doing some pretty cool stuff with it, though.

Good luck.

if you go trance, i think scot project does the best and most unique remixes
if you go electro , i think wolfgang gartner has great tunes when he remixes.

Good to hear you finally got the rights, Stephen.

Leaning more towards breaks/progressive house and possibly Trance. The names you mentioned above are going to demand an advance which I refuse to pay because of the industry of music right now. Please no flame wars. I know they deserved to be paid and paid well but I can't pay them large amounts of money if I'm not getting it in return. And besides, without going into too much detail, remix royalties will be not be controlled by Olympik. (if you can read between the lines)

And yes I was thinking a breaks mix would be good Matt. Would love to hear you give it a shot. I get the party Friday so if you're interested let me know and I'll fire them over. One neat thing I learned about this track is that some of the vocal parts are actually synthesized. (synthesized plus normal vocal) - I had never heard of this concept before.

I think I'm going to do an ambient remix using the sound primarily thats really washy lead/melody that starts in the very beginning of the track. That plus the vocals and the proper FX I think would make for a very solid ambient mix.

Anyone else have any thoughts?

Break trance with plucked chords, long moogish bass-line, a short-percussive mid-line bass, a prominent mid-pitch hi-hat with the emphasis in the mix, still on the vocals. Personally, I'd let it build, over time, starting off with a very quasi deep-house pattern and feel, then letting the other instruments crescendo around the singer's vocals. I would make interplay between the bass-lines and kick drums a focal-point of the music bed. I'd also do without any break.

Personally, I think trying to match up to the mix you posted may be a little wrong-headed. Not that I think your remark puts yourself in competition with him but I do think it sells other possible interpretations short while holding emulation as the test for quality.

OMG I want in I want the package just to noodle with!!

Best track ever made? YES.

Breaks remix has been done but was only released on the video game soundtrack Kinetica http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vsfS...feature=related

The grayed out summer mix is hands down the best remix of any song ever made in EDM in my opinion. I cried like a girl in 2004 nocturnal wonderland Oakey dropped this in front of like 10k people. EPIC.

I just want to say again that the Grayed out summer mix will never, ever ever, never ever be beaten.

the only thing I hate about this tune is the male vocal. There is something about male vocals in dance music that makes it utterly unappealing to me. I suppose that isn't always true, I don't mind some rap vocals in electro as it is more percussive but the wailing male singer just sounds so out of place in dance.

and the best dance song ever made is Ferry's Out of the Blue.

The vocals are amazing you're high on the wrong drugs

Gooooooosebumps....

Breaks sounds good, would like to hear what Stefan Anion, Derek Howell or Aeron Aether could do with the track.
