Yes, because your opinion is the be all and end all when it comes to electronic music. Give me a break. That comment was highly unnecessary. |
lol. go get off beatport and go to a record store and learn something about house music.
i've got a ton of music from many of the labels in your list, but I don't dare call that deep house. It's just another variation of prog house. Come on. You posted "ProgCity Deep".
but...as if this is only 'my' opinion.
go ask this forum what they think of 'your' list

basically this thread is like someone asking what real italian cuisine is like, and then a bunch of you guys post pictures of dominos pizza |

Dude, seriously? First of all, that argument hardly holds up any more since at least 85% of dance music pressed to vinyl these days is also available digitally.
Second, if you had bothered to read my posts throughout this thread (not that I blame you for not doing so), you'd have noticed that I wrote at least twice that the list I provided was not intended to the OP, but rather to a subsequent poster and it was based more on my perception of what he was looking for rather than what the OP had asked.
Anyway, there's really no point but I just don't want you to let me come off looking like an idiot. I know what "deep house" is. The fact that you're actually telling me to go to another internet forum and inquire about the opinions of others surprises me a little I guess. And I really don't want to add any fuel to the fire, regardless of how something is classified it will end up either being perceived by most as good or bad. Being "real deep house" doesn't necessarily make a track better than one that is still labeled as deep house but isn't necessarily so.
Whatever. I don't disagree with your post so no need to argue. The original link you provided is a good reference point for the OP, who had asked for something along those lines.
Basically I'm just upset that you wrote this:
| quote: | | the vast majority of stuff posted in this thread is generic/trendy/filler prog-with-rhodes house |
you are entitled to your opinion I suppose but I find your description to be quote arrogant and inaccurate. |

Yeah, the point is to listen to the real that you won't find digitally, and then try to call the stuff you posted 'deep house'. I'm not even making any judgments on the quality, just calling it what it is and isn't.

:p I wouldn't worry so much about your reputation on a trance message board.

Yes, exactly. I think the description is actually extraordinarily accurate. Arrogant? Hardly. Cynical? Definitely :p
Generic: the music generally conforms very tightly to a set of generic standards.
Trendy: it's extraordinarily popular in the trendiest clubs and internet sites such as resident advisor, littlewhiteearbuds, etc
Prog-with-rhodes: The structure of the music and many of its devices and gimmicks generally have more to do with the prog house of sasha, desyn masiello, deadmau5, than the deep house of ron trent, larry heard, braxton holmes, jovonn, etc. The producers use highly coded textural elements such as Fender Rhodes, various looped jazz, disco, or motown samples, 'ethnic' instruments, 'ethnic' vocal loops, etc in order to create an air of 'authenticity'. Bonus points if the vocals mention something like 'Detroit' or are from a gospel song. If you'd like me to explain this further, I'd be happy to, but I'm keeping this short for now. (until system j comes in this thread i guess)
Come on, let's call it what it is. Sorry if that hurt your feelings somehow in the process. I never singled you out, as you did to me. |

The vast majority of edm does.

You don't need to, because I don't really listen to any of the stuff you described. I definitely don't listed to it if the vocals mention something like Detroit. Unless we're talking about this one I guess. Man, edm these days doesn't have to be exclusively pressed on vinyl or have been made in the 90's or earlier by black people in Detroit or Chicago in order to be good. Whatever, I'm not even sure that we are talking about the same thing here anymore. |

it is all real. just because it only comes out digitally makes it less?
The point is to listen to what you like, regardless of what it is called or where it comes from. |

Yes, I do. And you should listen to stuff that preceded it in order to understand where this stuff that comes out today fits into a larger picture.

The vast majority of all music does. And the vast majority of it sucks.

You seem to have missed the entire point of everything I said. The point is before you claim that what you listen to or post is 'deep house', listen to what people have been calling deep house for 20 years and then reconsider if what you think is deep house is anything like that. It has nothing to do with what is better or worse, as I've already clearly said. I have my preferences as far as what I enjoy more, but this discussion is simply about naming. |
