I said that if you want to hear the real (original, namesake) deep house, you'll probably have to look in record stores. I said, listen to this stuff and then compare it to the 'deep house' in that list of labels.
Absolutely listen to whatever you like, but don't call something deep house if it's prog, and don't make excuses out of ignorance.

I misinterpreted what you wrote earlier. I agree that beatport doesn't necessarily label the genre of the songs properly, but I am pretty sure it is the record label who tells beatport what genre to put the song under. A lot of styles are mixed together more and more, so i think a lot of that deep house on beatport is almost like deep progressive house or something like that. I think its good stuff nonetheless. Its kind of funny searching by genres in beatport because there is a wide variation in deep or tech house or whatever.

A track I worked on was somehow labeled nu disco by a distributor...when its a bit far from it. What can you do but hope they get the genre right?
Genre names are used for marketing purpose, shortcuts for 'music journalists' to describe music, they are also used by labels to help describe music. As seasoned listeners...there is no reason to stress over the genres. Just find Artists Labels that you like, follow them instead of the genres.

Hey Adam, or anyone else have any recommendations for some (I'm going to mess up this description horribly) 90's deep house with inspiration from Garage, possibly the reverse (I'm probably way off the mark with what I'm asking for). I guess what I'm looking for is house that's concentrated on a more 'complex' percussion, with a solid bassline (I know that's quite subjective).
Ah, . I don't even know what I'm looking for I guess. But if you guys have any idea what I'm talking about, please throw some artists/recommendations my way. :)
EDIT: It doesn't have to be from the 90's, it just seems like the sound I'm trying to describe was quite popular in the mid-late 90's.
