I've been to Austin and Houston... couldn't believe how sprawling and large Houston was. It took me like an hour and a half to get from one end of the city limits to the other. Austin is really cool... I saw some of the hottest girls I'd ever seen in my life during the 4 days I was there. |
my ex-gfs from austin. lots of hot rich girls in austin....i learned all this during the various trips i took there which her family financed. :tongue2
and my god the restaurant scene there is amazing. |

bed bugs are everywhere, what big city isn't a little grimey in some places? there's nothing wrong with NY, matter of fact some areas of SF and CHI smell like piss and are grimey too. every big city has nice areas and bad areas.

I hear you on that. I love everything about it. But I admit the first time I went to SF it really threw me off. Strangers talking to you like they know you and want to be your friend, I thought they were all sketchy and throw their hooks out there to get someone's . Later I learned that the sketchy people in SF is actually a minority and most people are laid back and nice as hell and actually just that friendly. I'm too used to the scam artists and thugs in CLE. Maybe i'm biased cuz my wife's from SF but there's no place in the US like Cali IMHO, i love going out there especially the bay area. with any luck we'll live there one day.
People in the south have the reputation to be nice like this but are not, at least not in this area. I've lived in Atlanta long enough to state that the majority of people are fake, not all but most. smile in your face and talk behind your back, nobody tells it like it is and if you do tell it like it is then you're criminal for being so harsh. get the out of here with that. at least people up north are straight up
what's all this about austin texas? it's getting a lot of limelight lately but i don't care what anyone says about that place it won't remove the fact that it's in texas. that republican bigotry hick bull |

Lived in Austin for 10 years. That town is definitely worth all the hype it gets. Awesome vibe there... cool people, lots to do, lots of progressive minded folks... about as blue a demographic as you can get, despite being in Texas, let alone the capital city. |

Been living in NYC for the past year and returned to Vienna last week. Quite a culture shock - from absolute filth to super clean within 8 hours ;)
Have to say the subway stations bothered me the most. The heat is unbearable, there's no ventilation, you see rats running back on forth down the tracks, narrow, smelly, dirty, simply disgusting. Stations like 96 and 14th St on the one line were pure hell :nervous:
On the other hand, once you're back you start to miss even those little annoying bits. NYC comes in a package - love it or hate it. |

san fran area isn't exactly stress free especially with san jose / silicon valley nearby with all those big companies.
as for leaving, i must say maybe one of the best things i've ever done. i definitely don't miss those little annoying bits or the big annoying things. there are maybe two things i miss about the city, the subway system and party selection. |

nice! i'd really like to live in vienna for a bit. or innsbruck even. i have a ton of family just outside of innsbruck. have been putting more time into learning german lately, so hopefully i can make it a reality within the next 2 years or so. |

I ate at some awesome cajun restaurant on 6th street right in the middle of all the action. God damn it was fantastic. I also gotta give it up for The Hula Hut, Trudy's, and of course, outside of town, The Salt Lick. |

great picks. there are other good restaurants to get some good burgers, tex-mex, chinese dim sum, thai, and japanese to name a few. :D
some restaurants from the top of my head at the moment:
- the oasis (great view. all right tex mex. better burgers)
- home slice pizza (brick oven pizza. not comparable to the best pizzas, but the best pizza in austin. :p )
- enoteca vespaio (nice eclectic wine selection. good pasta and panini)
- chuy's (good mexican. a bit different than hula hut) |
