if i knew what i was talking about then what would be the point of you responding in the first place??

i've checked for jobs numerous times on different sites and never once did I find a job that accepted english-only applicants so I figured you need to be bilingual.

unless u have an insular job that is highly specialized and doesnt involve contact with the public, like say working in a lab, you need french. You even need french to be a walmart worker! Trust me, i tried to move there and escape this place last year and it wasnt happening with my lack of french.

And yes i so badly want to move away from here that i was willing to work at walmart while i learned french and start over!!

biggest difference i find between montreal and toronto.
torontonians work to make more money but montrealers work so that they make enough to enjoy their life

i think the general attitude therefore rubs off different way. toronto is so businesslike, but montreal is more enjoy your life atmosphere

i've heard that anaolgy many times from various ppl from both cities " in Toronto people live to work: in Montreal they work to live"
malek
Just wanted to say a thing :D

Toronto people are very insecure/proud, it's very hard to distinguish one from the other.

I have so many examples/little stories in mind but what happened Sunday night at a wedding was kinda funny/lame, so I wanted to share.

Big wedding, people from all over the world, brother of the groom thanks everyone over the mic, starts naming places people are coming from off the top of his head randomly: Carolina, California "small crowd shouts Toronto", New Jersey "small crowd shouts Toronto", on and on. He didn't end up naming Toronto, but it was just funny how the only ones shouting about their homes, were Torontians. lol

Later on, the bride takes the mic and thanked everyone, and she thanked some people coming from far like France, Syria and Saudi Arabia... (again the Toronto crowd shouts) finally she acknowledges and say Toronto, these morons were high fiving each other so happy they were, so ridiculous wow.

Sometime you meet random people on the street and the first thing they'll tell (or shout) you without asking is that they're from Toronto, like what the you want me to do, ask you for an autograph?? lol

Then I started working in Toronto (financial district) I finally encountered real Toronto people, only to realize that Toronto people (in general) do actually suck. Everyone who I do like turns out to be from some smaller town (like Kingston or Guelph, etc.).

Is this true of Toronto People or did I just get unlucky and get stuck with a bunch of cold, bitchy, materialistic, tightassed people who don't know how to have fun?

You are working in the financial district. You can't draw inferences on people from Toronto based on working in an area like that. It has to do more with the type of working environment that exists there than what native Torontonians are like.

you got it... most people i know here arent originally from here. Some people who move here become dickwads though over time.

Toronto is a very insecure city and this is why everyone is always so defensive and inward and dare i say it, socially inept.

People not from here tend to get it. People who are from here don't. So dont try to argue the point with a true torontonian because they wont understand.

Torontonians on the other hand will smile, say very little and then turn around and backstab u when you are looking. A new yorker will tell you (probably yell) why hes stabbing you as he does it LOL

What the is this? What a stupid, ignorant thing to say. How can you possibly make generalizations like this?

As someone who was born in Toronto and who has quite a few friends that were also born here, I take a lot of offence to some of the comments in this thread. How dare newcomers to this city make negative generalizations about those who were born here that are simply untrue and based on nothing. All comments and beliefs like these accomplish is that it exacerbates animosity between different groups in this city.

Those who have made these ignorant comments are just as bad as those s who were rude or standoff-ish to you.

I LOLd when so many insecure torontonians went into a flying rage about this and they had to withdraw the ad.

Same thing with the recent escape the city to niagara ads.

What a joke!
