Is there any reasoning behind this absurdity? Is there more to the lineup than just him? Is it a special theme or is there some crazy stuff going on at this show??

I don't get it.

He has a much bigger following than most people think. He attracts a wide audience (age) and sells out venues everywhere despite what his live act is like. He does play for a couple of hours, and yes his sets are not put together like a DJ set, but it seems to work for him.

You should of saw how the Olympics were in Vancouver. He played at a 8,000 person venue, and brought in 20,000.

Is that possible?

Yes, it was an outdoor venue, so people were outside the gate.

A couple more things:

1) deadmau5 is playing more and more concert venues, which are larger than clubs and have fewer age restrictions and regulations. So he's always going to outdraw the attendance for any event at any club.

2) When you go to see deadmau5, you know you're getting top quality visuals. Every one of his tours has a ridiculous lighting setup that his crew temporarily installs at each venue. You can't say the same for clubs.

3) He has the brand image: the glowing mouse head he wears onstage, the logo, the crowd making their own mouse heads, the Facebook following, etc. For many people who aren't really into EDM, I can see why he attracts their interest: he's more of a personality to them than just some random guy playing records.

I wouldn't pay $80 for his shows though.

and this is exactly why edm is going to .. people go to clubs/ballrooms now a days so they can be cooooooool... not because of the music. not sure if you went to electric zoo but where is all those people when those trance guys are having their own gigs at pacha, cielo, webster hall.etc

I think Electric Zoo is a draw to the non-EDM fans because they hear the word "dance party" and they want to go just for the sake of it being a party. They probably don't give two s about who is playing, the quality of a set, who dropped what track...

Interestingly enough the people I know who are my age and are into clubbing have zero interest in going to a place like Cielo or Pacha to see a DJ that is coming into town. They admit they like some electronic music, but don't go out of their way to experience it. Most of them haven't even heard of some of the venues here in NYC. The only thing they care about are the top 40/electro clubs where DJ Fat Mike or whoever is spinning the latest Lil' Wayne mashups.

WTF does "unhooked" mean?

BTW, the only other act in these 3 days besides S&B that I'd want to see is Erol Alkan.
