Just got back from Rank 1 - long drive back from Ottawa.
I will make this short cause I am tired and want to relax.
Got there around 2:30am, 15 min line up to get in and minimal check.
I have no idea what DJ was spinning but he played a few familiar tracks.
Rank 1 or should I say just Piet Bervoets knows how to spin but the other guy DeGeneji was there. Alot of people were shocked that Rank 1 - two of them were spinning and there was just one.
Cool set up from Aria - nice sound system and you can even watch the DJ spin and see what tracks is about to come up next. Also good crowd - notice more male to female population. I regret not bringing my Such as Life vinyl for him to sign. Very disappointed that Such as Life was NOT played.

Didn't stay for Michel - I was watching him use the BE OS software and Flash Point Pro I think to beat match or atleast keep track of it. That's cheating!!
I had a good night and it was a fun way to start my bday weekend.

got back from rank 1 and i had a splendid night
the last hour or so before rank 1 was excellent, i wasn't expecting that much from yaz
rank 1 ( or piet should i say ) kicked ass,trance music is too great to listen
but he played only 2h30 instead of three....
still all in all, excellent night there, people who missed it, too bad!! ( hey jpx!!) |

I drove up from Ottawa with a friend. It was his first time at an afterhours and I really wish i introduced him on a different night. I thought the music was pretty cheesy. I dont know maybe its just me, but i think i am really getting tired of trance. I actually preferred the techno/prog from the resident before him. Anyway he still loved the club and couldnt believe what he saw compared to what we have in ottawa.
Biggy I dont know if it is just me but I have noticed a real improvement in the sound since the last time I came (armin in april). Nice job. One complaint though.. you promised a special light show for this event. What happened?! The sound may have changed but i didnt notice any change the lighting. I still havnt seen a lazer show at a party and I was really hoping to finally see one. Meh.. oh well.
Still had a great time as always. Might actually try to make it up for astral projection next week and definitely marco the following |

I wish Rank1 came to Panama as well.
Only DJ's I've seen that have come to panama are AvB, Tiesto (twice) and Mauro Picotto! thats it!

Wow, wasn't expecting piet and michel de hey to play that well, but the tunes they dropped on us were perfect. I got there at around 4:30, had to wait for my friend bonnie because she works in a bar. from 4:30 to 8:00 am the music was superb, both DJs were spinning like crazy. Anastasia, i agreee with you, about michel de hey and his laptop, its not raw talent that is making him spin awesome, its more the technology. I was watching him a lot, and my god, must be really hard to learn to spin like that. I saw, as usual, a lot of TAs, such as Taha, Malek, Rnkr, zing, delstar, spoutnik (even though it was really short), and a few others. I still haven't met congo, charlie, anastasia, and others from ottawa. maybe next time (maybe astral projections, but not 100% sure yet, but definately Marco V and AVB). Also what i was very happy about is that there was a lot of room to dance, not like last time with oakenfold. And I didn't stop all night... Anyways, had a great time... All you TAs out there, we all ing rock, I love hanging out with you guys...

C'etait juste parfait, du monde, pas trop chaud, et excellent visuel...
c'est nouveau le 2ieme ecrans et le booth des VJ au centre?
Ca fesait 2 semaines j'tai pas venu au ARIA heheh
Le set de RANK-1 etait FORT, du bon trance progressif, et vraiment, j'ai trouver qui buchait a certain boute, pis j'ai vraiment aimer plus RANK-1 que Johan Gielen.......et de loin! :]
Y'avait des grosse montee de progressif ici et la... fort. :]
j'ai eu aucune idee si ya jouer LIGAYA la nouvelle de Gouryella (FCorsten)
Domage parcontre, il manquait un des gars de RANK-1, et celui qui spinnais est venu tout seul avec sa blonde...
Jai ecouter une bonne partie du set de Michel de hey, c'etait un peu du genre a Yaz peut-etre moins hard... il a jouer avec le systeme Final Skratch avec son portable sony (Tu joue des mp3/wav sur les vinyl encodee toute ca branchee a l'ordi)....
ya eu une coupe de fois que ca a accrocher parcontre....final scratch est pas encore parfait on dirait LOL
Je vois ca de plus en plus parcontre du monde qui utilise ca
Aquaviva, Hawtin, Dj Craze etc......
en gros, bon party, vous avez manquer de quoi amateur de trance si vous etiez pas!!!

well i got there like at 1 :) i saw le castrateur at the lineup and after getting in a was just moving around, started dancing almost at the end of yaz set just before he put mi casa es su casa by latin loopworks (aka tomaz zzino and filterheadz) he also spinned sharpside spacecruisin, some ben sims tune, and acording to zing some marco carola and marco bailey :) and for the 6 week in a row la la land (tomaz zzino vs filterheadz) :)
then i saw piet inside, and anastasia i dont know if you are wrong but i didn't saw benno, and i don't think he was there cause it would have been a waste of money for biggy to bring him and pay hotel, plane tickets etc. if he doesnt spin, i did expect only piet to show cause rank 1 fans should know that piet spins and benno is the master producer, for people that don't know much about benno he's behind kamaya painters (with tiesto), benicio, etc.
anyway why they call us tranceaddicts?? cause of this hehe

malek was telling me that it was nothing like the sensation set cause that set was like house music compared to this one and well i requested los hijos del sol by latin loopworks and he played it!!!!
:) he also played lalala land (dave clarke remix) and some familiar tune at the end that zing will give me the name :P really good set. and well never trust computers haha final scratch crashed on him once but it was all good after all, first time i saw someone use it, (i know richie hawtins the master of techno :), john aquaviva and chris cowie use it also) and i dont think he was using a beatmatche since with the wave thingys that show the tune on the computer (how you call it? wave??) anyway you dont need a beatmatch since you can see there the kicks etc. i think it's inovative but also i don't trust the computer, but the good thing is that you can keep mixing normally with vinyls if anything goes wrong like michel did :P, great night probably the best i had at aria since i really enjoyed the sets.
i think it was the night with the most trance addicts i have seen, kudos to malek,zing,fastdj,discojoe,dmx (the only one who can handle dancing :P) deli, rankr, le castrateur, charlie!! :), el-see,spoutnick nice to have you backa nd the lights!! and the guy with the sensation dvd (technofreak?), i never heard your name good :) nice meeting you all. also i saw only the back of eli :( when i arrived he was leaving, and for what i heard he was having lot's of fun

anyway anastasia sorry we didn't meet, maybe next time.

and it was the original remix of ligaya not the rank 1 remix.
maybe zing can clarify this since he was inside. did he played from a cd or vinyl? cause the vinly is not pressed yet for the rank 1 remix |
