those hairs are already dead so no. It is an oversimplification but pretty much accurate.

Audio Mythbusters. I get what you're trying to say though. Also, I'm not a complete idiot, and insist there may be some purpose for the response up to 28 kHz. May it be a safe zone for some filter to not attenuate frequencies near 20 kHz? Or something?

Heard a funny thing recently. 18 kHz < (or just high enough, don't know the exact freq) noises have been used to keep kids from loitering mall yards and such :P the grannys and papas hear nothing, but young people just can't stand the noise, so they'll leave. Quite a genious trick I have to say.

Ups i meant 20hz maybe this confussed you. It's easy to test, i once questioned if removing <20hz sounds could help to make more room for the bass and i tested with kicks below 20hz, despite i felt like if i could hear something the subwoofer was clearly bouncing and my hair was stood on end on the arms, so i certainly was feeling it.

With this happens exactly the same, is part of the sound and since you don't hear it doesn't annoy you but at the same time you feel it.

And yes, it's used here on some shops that noise, works the same for cats and dogs, you whistle and hear nothing but you are crushing the dog ears.

I could hear all of them. The first 2 almost made my head explode lol

Wow is it normal to wanna scratch the inside of your ears out? The first 2 make my eardrums feel like ants are walking around inside there.
I was able to hear all of them rather clearly, the only thing that seemed to change was the intensity.

I'm 28 too ftr.

I have a question though now about this. If a dog whistle generates sound between 16-22hz why can't I hear one of those but I can hear these sounds fine?

dog flutes have overtones i guess.

probably because your speakers are cranked. One part of the experiment involves calibrating your system to a set spl. Most people can hear all if you turn up your speakers enough.

If you have to crank your equipment to the max to hear all of them, chances are good you have already lost some of those upper frequencies.

:p

Yep you guys nailed it. Because it was a hearing test I was expecting the volume to already be superlow so I cranked it up all the way like an idiot before opening the file.

After my ears almost exploded I lowered it down to 75% (which is still pretty much blasting) and heard all the sounds perfectly. I had no idea you had to calibrate the volume though now I gotta give this another shot with the volume calibrated. I'm assuming other people who had no issue hearing prob did the same thing I did.

it is completely normal for anyone our age to only hear the first 3. That includes people that never went clubbing a day in their life. That is just normal deterioration.
