i honestly wasn't having much calcium in my diet and i felt guilty about it.. compared to alot of people i thought i was eating a pretty well balanced diet, i rarely eat fast food and maybe have a carbonated drink once a week. I don't know if i could have prevented this but i think drinking alot more water and maybe some more information on possible diet change can make it manageable?

also i think i read on wiki that even though it is a popular belief to avoid calcium to prevent forming the calcium oxalate crystals doctors recommend a normal calcium intake (like you said).

from wiki:
Restriction of oxalate-rich foods, such as chocolate, nuts, soybeans,[28] rhubarb and spinach,[29] plus maintenance of an adequate intake of dietary calcium. Recent research has shown that low-calcium diets may be harmful, and a diet that includes recommended calcium levels has been shown to prevent kidney stones in men better than a low-calcium diet appears to. (http://www.nih.gov/news/WordonHealt...idneystones.htm) Calcium helps rid the body of oxalate, and calcium citrate appears to carry the lowest, if any, risk for kidney stones.

Have people in your family had kidney stones? Because genes can have a major factor in the whole story. Otherwise, most of the times it has to do with an unbalanced diet, however, if you say you were taking care of yourself, so it is odd, indeed. There are probably tons of other undiscovered factors.

My mum had them once when she was in her early 20's but never since. It would be nice to actually pass the damn thing and have it tested so i can see what kind of stone it is, that will be a huge indicator i think. The doctor at the hospital said some people are just 'stone formers'.. :stongue:

Yea, I've heard that before. About the diet, D-vitamin works as an antagonist to calcium, but I doubt the intake of D-vitamin really makes a difference.

I could ask the doctor I have in biochemistry, she has a PhD in nutrition so she might know a thing of two ;)

Yes, calcium forms deposits in your kidneys. My doctor told me it's better to eat the calcium in foods than take the supplements because the supplements will cause the stones to form much faster.

Most times those tests come up inconclusive. I actually passed a stone in a cup in the doctors office after going there due to pains. They sent it to the lab and found nothing. I sent them another one from a different time it happened.... same result.

I have had kidney stones for the past 5 years. You have to try and catch it to see what type of stone it is. You should be prescribed Floxmax to open up your tubes to make it easier to pass. Drinking a lot of water is bs. I was on a strict diet with plenty of intake and still got them. I just gave up. Watch out for dark greens such as spinach and kale, they have the most oxalate which binds to calcium to form a stone. These are the kind I get. I was desperate one time and tried a coke & asparagus experiment. If you are interested PM me.

Good luck they hurt like hell.

I'm surprised you haven't tried the lemon juice cure. Looks like it works even without prayer.

I tried the lemon juice but it didn't work.

ok maybe you do have to pray after all.

So did you follow the entire regime of drinking water and lemon juice for 12 hrs? There are a number of youtube videos of ppl with successful results.

maybe the lemon trick works for some people and not others? i can't be arsed to try it.. the second time i went to emerg i saw a better doctor who gave me a scrip for flowmax, antibiotics and painkillers and so far so good! (the first time i went to emerg the doctor i saw said "you've got kidney stones! good luck with that.. WWHHEEEEEE!") so i'm going to maintain what i've been doing since it seems to be working.

i can't remember the name of the stuff, but when i had...problems...they gave me some pills that turned my pee orange. it was supposed to numb the urinary tract.

however, it did not help, since it wasn't really my urinary tract that was having the problems; so i dunno if that'll help you or not either.
