its music that people feel. just like some people cant feel edm. they think its all just repetitive techno. thats what they call it.

when some edm ppl think all rap is the same. but there's underground rap like jedi mind tricks, there's that southern crunk music, chicago has its own style, midwest has it, of course NY rap, there's gangster rap, west coast, east coast, trille, hyphy, backpack rap, conscious rap.

just like tiesto, wally lopez and super8 and tab differ. so do nas, keak da sneak and lil jon

diff ppl feel diff flavors right? some like chocolate some like vanilla. i go to mcdonalds and ask them to mix the 2

They're more than welcome to come to Club Love or Cielo or Pacha or Electric Zoo to hear some trance. Trance is a music that was made for the masses, and a big room where people can share smiles and high fives (and not business cards and financial advisors) is where it belongs. You don't see Ozzy Osbourne or Marilyn Manson or the Wu Tang Clan playing shows at Tenjune, 1Oak, or Buddha Bar in the Meatpacking District.

Stop it please...... You know if they throw $5K your way to open up for Tiesto you'd be there in a sec..... and trust me the people that will be there will share smiles and high fives... what diff does it make if they are financial advisors ? why shouldn't they enjoy the trance music... Don't be so negative

not to throw around the term intimate... but maybe that music in an intimate setting might kick ass. maybe it wouldnt. i'll be honest, when we had bobina spin at Lima in DC i did find that I like trance better in a massive room or outdoors

but on the subject of the wu... i think rap is without question the best in tiny venues. rap concerts in stadiums BLOW. 500 ppl is the max i can stand at a rap show

This isn't a question of intimate vs. big-room. I love Cielo, I love Sullivan Room, I actually LOVED the outdoor area at Fur, and a cramped packed out loft party is always fun. I heard even Armin at Pachita was a good time..

If you've done the whole bottle service, Meatpacking District, velvet rope thing a few times or have friends that do it every week like I do,
you'd get what I'm saying. I ask them what they did last night: "First we went to Tenjune, , what else.. Went to 1Oak, Gansevoort, Butter, and some other places, it was cool." They're never REALLY excited about the night before, it's always a blur of 4-5 clubs because there's not that culture of enjoying the DJ. I ask them what music was playing, they say "it was cool, not bad".. It's totally secondary, and that's how the patrons regard it as.

That's not their fault. I don't think anyone's hating on them. Let them do what they gotta do, they got 400 small clubs to choose from in the city. If Markus Schulz, Armin, Menno De Jong, and Rank 1 all started playing venues in the city that I couldn't get into though (without a $1000 bar tab, and I'm not exaggerating!), I'd be really pissed at THEM or their booking agent. Electric Zoo cost me $130, thank you very much. That embodies the open spirit of this music, not clubs that bleed exclusivity and pompousness..

You don't know some of the deals I've said no to this year, more than 5K.. I can't be 100% sure what I'd do if I were handed this offer. But I've said no to some offers recently that I won't really advertise on TA lol for different reasons, never the money. Maybe that's why I'm not Top100 yet, but hey that's life.

Point aside, Ravi wanted to play devil's advocate about people's negative reaction to the event so I debated haha.. My argument is less toward Tiesto and more toward reacting to the general possibility that trance DJs can go this route, and if they did, I'd be pissed. Places that don't let someone in because they're only with 2 girls, and not 6; or because you're not wearing a blazer; let those people find trance elsewhere. It's like one of those riddles: they can listen to trance if they wanted to whenever they wanted to at certain venues on any given night, we can't necessarily go to Lavo that night, get in, and listen to trance. As a Tranceaddict forum, we can just hope this concept doesn't catch on and all our favorite DJs start playing in 80 person venues in the Meatpacking, that's all..

he's booked to play a gig. he's a professional. it's what professionals do. 50cent, celine dion and aerosmith have played private events and even bar mitzvahs ffs.

tiesto will play his regular set in a regular venue in the near future. some events are just crazy exclusive and not a lot of people will get in. i don't understand people's bewilderment/hate toward this, especially in nyc. suck it up plebes.

i completely agree.... it's just weird that people who are trying to make it as a DJ are being hypocritical... If you're djing just for the music (prob not the case) then i could understand. but if you're doing it to be in the top 100 (which I'm assuming is the case) then stop it... you'd be super excited if you got a $30K-$40K gig to play at an upscale place.....
ReenTeenTeen
seems like a cheesy case of mtv's "my sweet 16" already.
Scoops
Just an FYI...the owners of LAVO are the same people who behind Tao in Las Vegas...

so...don't be surprised if TAO is where Tiesto's vegas residency is nxt year...

you would be forced to take requests for that money, something many respected DJs would have second thoughts about. it comes down to how much you love what you're doing and if there is a price for you to change your mind and listen to your "boss".

as to what Eco said about meatpacking, i completely agree. many of my friends and some FAs that i know who frequent the meatpacking places have never once said they were genuinely happy the next day (due to either a significantly lower bank account balance or the atmosphere). that environment is not for lovers of any kind of music, but instead just a social/networking/model your beef environment.

tiesto playing at one of these places shows just how much he still loves creating music that people care about. all the luck to him in his career endeavors, but i doubt many people attending will care about him or his music the next day. if they do remember anything that he plays, it will be just another song that they heard at another party.

It's a job like another other, you work, you get paid. If you are in a position to pick and choose when and where you work...hey even better and good for you. If the price is right you do what you gotta do. Might people loose respect, hmmm may be....but these days everyone is quick to judge before thinking what they might do if they were in the same situation.

If I can get in.... I'm going. Everyone here knows I am not a stuck up clubber or a rich kid but if I have the opportunity to see Tiesto in an intimate setting I think it would be very interesting. I can't imagine he would play that same way as he would in an area packed full of people. I am also interested in checking out the new space.
