tiesto will play his regular set in a regular venue in the near future. some events are just crazy exclusive and not a lot of people will get in. i don't understand people's bewilderment/hate toward this, especially in nyc. suck it up plebes.

If the price is right you do what you gotta do. Might people loose respect, hmmm may be....but these days everyone is quick to judge before thinking what they might do if they were in the same situation.
Yeah, I mean, from these perspectives I guess you're all right.

Originally posted by Serial Killer i completely agree.... it's just weird that people who are trying to make it as a DJ are being hypocritical... If you're djing just for the music (prob not the case) then i could understand. but if you're doing it to be in the top 100 (which I'm assuming is the case) then stop it... you'd be super excited if you got a $30K-$40K gig to play at an upscale place.....
Well, I speak my mind on NYTA as this is the only forum I post on. I'm friends with most of the people here, and I go to a lot of the events. For the most part, I'm a "paying customer" and a "fan", so at least here exclusively on NYTA, I like to voice my opinion once in a while, with a general trust that, unlike this thread, my opinion doesn't get misunderstood..
Rationally speaking, wtf should I care where or where not Tiesto is playing? This is an okay way to see the situation. But at the end of the day, I was a HUGE Tiesto fan and a lot of my music sounds the way it does directly because of his discography over the past decade +.. So, as a fan, every once in a while I have to complain about the general direction he's gone this past year especially in distancing himself from trance music. And I do so on NYTA because, hey, I know most of you people very well and most of you know me and won't come to the conclusion of "Wow, Eco's a huge negative dick, hating on Tiesto for a stupid reason." First and forememost I'm a disillusioned Tiesto fanboy, so I can't help but voice my disappointment with the Three 6 Mafia/Jay-Z/fart electro/VIP club gig Tiesto..
That being said, this thread's a good indication that I should stop posting on topics like this haha.. I've posted a LOT less on this site than the past few years, but I see with my fellow DJ friends that stuff like this will get me in trouble. Hope nobody takes any of this TOO seriously.

Agreed, it's probably best you don't voice your concern too much even though it pretty much makes sense.
In my opinion, people need to realize that this is a business. Yeah, everyone is about the music but in the end, it's all about the money. I'm sure many of you wouldn't say no if someone offered you a good sum of money to play at a small Italian restaurant.
Would I go to this Tiesto event? No way because I can't afford to spend $1000 on a table/tab and the music Tiesto plays doesn't really interest me. I actually walked out last time he was there and I'm not doing that again. And this party is obviously for the rich people who can afford it. Remember, there are tons of people who has no money where this isn't even an issue. But I don't even see Tiesto playing full on trance at a small exclusive place like this (he doesn't anways)
I don't think people should take this seriously. Tiesto isn't doing this to against the people who likes his music.

+1 on that..... I have been a fan of Tiesto for years, in which that time he was my #1 dj..... the move to rap/mainstream dance music was awful for people who were fans of his old music. But, it is what the people want. I first heard about this event and wanted to go, but now that I found out it was a VIP/Bottle service only type thing, I do not mind missing it.

There. It's really nothing out of ordinary, that's what big names do when they get paid big. I wouldn't be surprised if he already played at completely private parties.
As for his music, I still have hope for "A New Dawn" upcoming compilation. Maybe, just maybe...

Yep, and this will only be there second time here.

@marcelo - the one thing that truly binds us all together is that we LOVE music more than the next guy. no question about it. and when your friends say like, yeah we went to tenjune and butter this weekend the music was ok, w/e, blazay blah. they are representing the sentiments of most people. what I have learned is that the majority of people in this world consider music to be nothing more than background filler. they dont care what genre, what radio station, what band, etc as long as its pleasing to their ears.
on the topic of you picking and choosing gigs. good for you i think. from what I can tell, the ability to do that in edm is pretty important. picking the right spots, etc. although... if someone offers Des 5G's to spin somewhere and he says no i'ma smack him. lol
and i think you're still safe to post on NYTA. I was talking with Max Vangeli about forums and stuff, during our interview, and umm, lets just say I didnt feel it proper to use any of it. The people in SF are NOT fans of him, cant figure out why. But i think NY and the east coast in general likes you, so i dont think anything you write on here will work negatively.
@everyone else - , I forget what I was going to say. this is a pretty good thread given the subject matter. people are actually (for the most part) posting intelligently for once instead of screaming at each other. (as intelligent as TA posts can get i guess lol)
I just think that, as xpand3r i think was getting at... Tiesto didnt book a gig for the sake of saying " you" to people with small budgets who are obsessed with music. He did it because his agency booked him there, probably for a nice fee, at a new venue that is owned by the people giving him a vegas residency (thats what someone wrote, right?)
in the end, everyone, leave the guy alone... Eco - go get ya self paid son!!! lol

True that! Makes sense, when you look at it that way...

It happens with almost everyone... Deadmau5 is the best example haha.. I'm a very opinionated person, I think it's better I hideout like I had been before Electric Zoo haha..

Allegedly what I hear is.... he is horrible @ mixing and only got anywhere because he got in with the SHM crew, and his personality isn't so great either. I can't speak from personal experience because I have never seen him play live or interacted with him...but that's just the word on the street. There a few threads over in the West Coast forums you should skim.

As a person I would tell you.... don't let anyone discourage you from stating your opinion, I respect the fact that you post here and don't hold your tounge, but from a professional standpoint...when you get really big (and I KNOW you will) people are going to dig up from the grave and use it against you.

yeah, he showed me the threads. we went through the comments one by one. only because i happened to mention i posted on TA that I wanted a SHM tent at electric zoo. he was like, oh lord, you're on trance addict? so we skimmed...
he is not horrible at mixing. he is not a douche. and, if you check my fb page for the interview video... he basically had the right sound, got it in the hands of the right people, at the right time. thats how music works. Max's first release was on Chris Lake's label/imprint. He was, as he put it, thrown into it. So of course, when steve and the guys heard his stuff they most likely saw talent and wanted to nurture it. I dont understand how anyone can fault max vangeli for getting noticed. haters, plain and simple. he cant understand why his hometown hates on him so much. they should be supporting one of their own. or, if he sucks so much, they should be putting in work in the studio themselves to prove how much better they are.
and that is why forums blow.
coincidentally... talking about max in a tiesto thread is appropriate, considering the preview of his next release he showed me ;)
