The regulation is being grandfathered in, meaning residents used to packing several cars on the driveway are still allowed to do so.

They'll have to show they've been doing it for a while, which could prove difficult, said Lance Cumberbatch, director of the municipal standards and licensing division.

which makes this law total bull. what a waste of taxpayer money and time.

This is actully a pretty good law.

Drive through Scarborough or any of the outlying areas of Toronto and you'll see single-family homes with 5+ cars.

No, this is not because people are wealthy and own many cars - it is because there are 6 families living a 1400 sq. foot house. It is not uncommon for 20 people to be living in these houses.

This law helps to better enforce the zoning - imagine if you lived on a street of single-family homes and you were the only single-family actually living there?

This is a big problem in Toronto. I would expect 905ers or 519ers to understand it.

So instead of providing affordable housing....so that 20 people dont have to live in the same house....we should ban them from parking 5 cars in the driveway?

Funny how now that the bylaws have crossed the realm where it effects almost everybody instead of just smokers or people that live next to train tracks, that everyone starts bitching. Many who even advocated for intrusive social engineering laws "for the better of society". These club laws and parking laws were only a matter of time. The governments pushed and no one pushed back so now they feel they have carte blanche. And you know what? They do because we let them.

As i always say, Defend your brother so that he may be there to defend you.

Perhaps now you can see why I as a non smoker, non pit bull owner, non drug taker etc etc etc person will defend their rights with as much passion as my own. Because when someone loses their rights, we all do!

it does say that the bylaw is grandfathered for residennts used to parking multiple vehicles & the city won't actively seek out offenders unless there are complaints. Besides, it's already been appealed & under review.

so you cant buy a new house or build a new driveway.

Yeah thats fair.

Unreal!

They need to take the new amalgamated bylaws and throw them in the garbage can!!

So what happens if you own 4 cars? What if you entire family is living there? More young people are living at home longer, and if you have two parents, and two kids, all with cars, use your garage as a storage area, where are the cars supposed to go?

This isn't an odd ball situation, but a very common one that I have seen more and more in the last few years.

I can only see this spilling cars onto street parking, which is hardly cleaning up aesthetics of the area. I guess it's a cash grab because then you have to pay for street parking.

I bet this is to curb people making money during the CNE. In Parkdale most home owners rent out their driveways and even their lawns for a quick buck. The city wants a cut!
