WIP's - Works In Progress in the Production Studio Forum?

So it seems that there's been quite a few threads recently which are dedicated just to WIPs.
While I don't think there's really anything wrong with someone asking for specific technical or creative feedback and directly it relating to their latest track, I'm kind of seeing a trend towards anyone just posting up very open ended questions about their latest musings in front of a computer.
Personally, I would prefer WIPs to be in the promotion forum, unless there are very specific questions that relate to production needing specific feedback.
My reasoning for this is that there has been a decline is posting in the promotion forum (because it has it's own problems etc), hence the production forum is becoming the dumping ground for these threads and frankly I don't want the prod forum to devolve like to promo forum has.
I just want to get other peoples feedback on where they stand on this, so please vote with an explanation if needed.... |

It also depends on who is posting it. If it's a longtime contributor to the site who is asking for some opinions on something which is quite different to what they normally do, then I'd be much more okay with that.
But people who are just starting with production, or threads like "here's just something I threw together, just an intro to a track", and then people provide feedback, and they respond with "yeah, I know all that, I was gonna put all the other things in there, it's just a rough draft, I still need to get it mastered lol" - those threads where the original poster didn't even care enough to finish the song in any way before posting it, they just bug me.
The vast majority of these should be in promotion. It's a better place for these (and even better would be a dedicated song feedback forum, though there could be a bit of overlap between those two). |

What about where I posted my track Slither? I was specifically asking for advice on the mixdown; not really the track itself- would you consider that different?
I certainly hope so, I know I'm a 'noob' but I've been browsing forums for a long time; I just thought it didn't make any sense to post the track in promotion if I'm asking for advice on it as opposed to opinions. |

i dont mind seeing a work in progress post in this forum because if we get pissed off with just spamming for the sake of it i'm sure they wont get any feedback whats so ever.
so i dont think we need to worry just yet |

| I enjoy giving feedback on mixdowns or masters so don't mind seeing a thread pop up here once in a while, certainly if the person was just starting out with a track (as in opposed to posting a finished track in the promo forum, which it would seem that's what that's for really). If it should be limited to the promo forum then so be it, as I check there too anyway. But really that forum should be for finished tracks, and any production work should go in this forum. I mean, you can only have so many threads discussing different production techniques - actual tracks and hands-on stuff would keep things interesting. |

What that guy said.
I am feeling tipsy right now, so I would hate to explain. |

But then arnt you just leaving a loop hole so people will post in here and comeup with a "specific" reason so they can do that?
I have stated in another topic a while ago, if I wanted feedback on a track or WIP, id post in here, however due to this situation i take that back because i wouldnt want this place to get like that, if its every other post like .nu got like..
Av been on here a short while now and have a good idea who's who, so i guess if i wanted specific help id know who to pm and just ask for it. |

I think it would be ok as if you do get spammers it's only in one thread really.
Also it would help alot of people if there stuck with there project. |

There is a work in progress sticky in the promotion forum but it gets no love. Regular poster or not I'd rather see this sub-forum just for technical support, hardware advice, reviews and tutorials.
But if we must I guess trash the other sticky and drop a new sticky here in the production forum.
I comment on everyones music in the producers promotion forum usually I hate coming here and there's 3 threads on does this sound ok, do you like my melody, I've been making music for 6 months and I just mastered my track, give it a listen.
Give me the ban hammer I'll clean this bitch up. |
