Yup. The Hawker series are near the end of their life expectancy at 30+ years

bombardier is from quebec and we will separate soon. |
Yeah, but the plant that made the trains is in Thunder Bay and that's where the workers reside
Also, the trains are costing 700M (230 must be the amount each level of goverment is pitching) |

There are many options to deal with rush hour crowding.
1. Move all business out of toronto and into Mississauga, Oakville, Vaughn, Etc.
2. People drive cars to work instead of relying on a garbage trasit system
3. Work late or leave early to avoid rush hour crowding
4. Work from home |
In the event that you're not trolling and are just genuinely retarded...
You do realize that roads & highways will never have the capacity of subways & other mass transit, right? Take for example, the ~18-lane 401 - quite a colossal beast it is isn't it? And of course, prone to massive delays and as such, long commute times...yet it moves less people (through Toronto) every day than the Yonge-University-Spadina subway line, which consumes a minimal amount of surface space and for the most part, moves at fast pace (even if trains are often overcrowded). And do you really want the 1.5 million people that use the TTC every day to then crowd onto the already overcrowded road & highway network?
And not everyone (most people, probably) has the luxury of going into work whenever they feel like, or working from home. And when already working full days, no one should have to go early & leave late just to avoid third-world level traffic jams, as would exist in your transit-less city.
#1 I won't bother dignifying with a response. |

there's the kind of answer i was looking for. I wonder what they mean by life expectancy as New York still runs a lot of their cars that are older than 30 years. Unless maintenance were to get to the point that it cost more than buying a new train, i dont see the need. But perhaps this is the case?

whether its work in ontario or work in bangladesh, a sole source contract pretty well makes it certain we paid too much. Either way the taxpayer pays. Yes its better that jobs stay, but not at any cost otherwise it negates the gain. Also sole sourcing opens up the doors to a whole host of corruption possibilities. Im always suspicious of these kinds of deals. |

| If TTC really wanted to expand capacity in a big way on the Y/U/S, they'd extend the station platforms and have 8-car trains instead of 6. But that's an expensive renovation, no doubt. |

This is why we can't have nice things.
Every 30 y.o. dimwit decides to live american dream, get a house in 'burbs, wife, 2 kids and caravan.
And then complain how he can't get to work without car, because it would take 3 hours one way.
Fcuking retards. |
