| pretty sure that one note at the end of the bar is actually a synth and not a guitar. Otherwise it sounds rather common. I just don't see what sort of guitar technique you could use to get that particular sound as it certainly isn't harmonics and it doesn't sound like doubled octaves either. |

If all you're talking about is that note at the end of the bar like M4B's talking about you just need high compression fuzz distortion and play 2 on the high E, 6 on the B, playing the F# a lot harder than the F to give it more emphasis.
Though I'm pretty sure it's a synth too, unless they're using some weird type of fuzz pedal but Linkin Park isn't exactly known for that kind of thing.
Edit: Using a Whammy pedal's bottom harmony function with the pedal down (2nd) and playing F# on the high E sounds similar to it too. It's the same thing as playing the two notes on their own but the pedal adds a bit of tone to the note that sounds a bit closer to the recording. |

It's not the note at the end, it's just the layering combination and technique a lot of recent heavy rock/metal uses. Thick/distorted bass, double tracked guitars etc.
I'd usually mess about and figure it out, but I need this done by the 31st.
Similar deal in Rammsteins Sonne

| downtune. Thick gauge strings , double track and really using something like Amplitube 3 is enough. The rest is just heavy EQ and compression |

Hmm, downtuning is something i'd not thought of.
I'm thinking 4 guitar layers 100% and 80% left and right.
We'll see |

| Distorted bass also makes heavy, deep tones a hell of a lot easier. |

Yeah I've had a quick mess around with bass distortion but only using quadrafuzz. I suspect I shall have to run it through guitar rig to get it anywhere near mashup enough.
I'm thinking for the compression i'll need to pull off the attack a bit to keep those crunchy transients.
I'll be lost without sidechaining to a kick too. |

| most bands that do that style of playing are using dropped C tuning. What guitar are you playing ? |

I'm not, my initial demo is EEG Strawberry out of Kontakt. I have a Vintage V6 sitting here, but I'm only going to use that for spot chords and FX as I can't really play.
I have a guitarist who I'm collaborating with that who has all the gear and plenty of experience, but as i'll be the one 'producing' and mixing the track I need to know the ins and outs of the sound I'm trying to achieve (which will partially involve those cliched movie strings as well). |

i'm more of a telecaster man. Just one other thing I'm rather great at. The latest prominy release has the drop C setting and has many guitars and could do the job but again, it is many many gigs.
I have the Fender Telecaster Plus and a later american tele that I moded with the guts of the VariAx. Its that guitar dsp thing that mimics all these guitar sounds. Sounds pretty phenomenal actually except for the sustain. |
