A similar argument could be had with Ford products too. The entry level feels cheap. You have to pay for a little nicer interior but it makes the car feel totally different.

Well since hes just getting the Golf for practical use. The 2.0 will be fine. Just make sure the car was serviced before you buy it. By now most of these cars have ~80k miles so make sure the 80-110k service was done and you should be good. Getting auto or stick?

Let me just jump in here...you dont actually drive one of the good fords as i recall. Not a focus or a mondeo nor a fiesta or an S-Max...you drive a ford pick up.

When people see a pickup they dont go, oh look, thats a nice ford, with a smile in their lips and joy in their eyes full of knowledge that the prson comming their way is driving a well equipped, fantastic to drive, good lookig yet moderately priced car. No, they looked upon them asthe soulles abominations that they are.

Youre familiar with the fact that they they cleared out the 9nt circle of hell of all the traitors and reserved it just for 4WD drivers right (were loking at you Fledz), well they built a special circle for pickup drivers and their cars. Those things deserve to sufffer just as much as the people who drive them do. On a happy note though, Fledz, you are no longer the most evil driver here :D

I just speak from experience driving some of them.... truly some of the less sturdy cars I've operated. Again I haven't driven the GTI or CC though.

Then you shut the hell up

talkin' VWs like YOU KNOW. Shiiiiet. I SAY SHIIIIEEET.

For the record, the Golf has always been a highly rated, highly sought after car ever since it was the Rabbit. Nicely priced, great on gas, great options, a nice ride, storage space etc... You really have to try to get a bad Golf imo :p

I've driven several different types of Volkswagons (minus the CC which I hear is pretty nice).... the Golf, the Jetta, the Touareg, and the Passat, and they ALL feel like they're going to start flying apart when you exceed 65 mph on the highway. I know they're cool rides in the minds of hipsters and people who think they're part of the underground-yet-preppy-yet-alternative socialites (not saying this is you), but I just don't see the appeal. If your budget is $17,000 to $20,000 there's a lot of other choices out there, including some pretty sweet used cars.

that .

Jus sayin....

Consumer Reports Magazine comes out with an annual used car edition. Quite reputable in which they do extensive research, testing and reporting. VW's are often rated poorly, especially used Golf's between 02-05, with a 70-80% failure rating.

I wasn't referring to the 09 Golf.

I'm thinking of buying a car in the following months and the 2002-2003 Golf has caught my attention. What are your opinions about this car? Issues? Reliability problems you've heard? anything?

I have a 2003 Golf and to be honest, I couldn't have made a better choice for that price.
