"Beethoven's 5th" in terms of musical beauty, or popularity? Or both?
I guess you'd need to look at which tunes consistently feature on the highest number of compilations. Tunes like Paul Van Dyk's 'For an angel' or Binary Finary's '1998' (or the following versions thereof) would turn up a lot. Yeah, 'Sandstorm' as well. '9PM (Til I come)' as well.
I'd need the question to be a bit clearer/ more specific. Who's to say there is a "Beethoven's 5th" (whatever you're defining it as) in every genre? What is the equivalent in Jazz, or Nu Metal?

Popularity.
I'd say Bill Jean or Thriller just because Thriller is the #1 selling album.

his 5th is the most popular but most scholars and people that study classical music will agree that the 9th is more ambitious in terms of scope form and all that intellectual stuff. There were countless writings at the time that no composer for many years would attempt to write a symphony as it would just be shadowed by that particular one. I part of the reason Brahms took 20 years to compose his first symphony was that he didn't see the point anymore. I suppose you could say he was Beethoven's successor.

Also Robert miles children was another big hit.

How about: Wolfgang Gartner - Wolfgang's 5th Symphony
Rodri Santos
This.
But i think Robert Miles - Children, Sandstorm,Adagio for Strings... are some of the songs that made a period.

In terms of popularity, definitely Sandstorm. EVERYBODY knows that song. I use the people/retards at my school as a metric - mention any of the other songs in this thread to anyone, and they'll just greet you with a blank stare. But Sandstorm is instantly recognizable.

Was just about to post Sandstorm. Sandstorm by Darude and possibly Satisfaction by Benassi.

Robert Miles - Children, without a doubt.
It was actually the first No.1 instrumental song in history.
Sandstorm may be very famous but Children sold more records, made more money, and in fairness as least Children as a track has more musical integrity, and in that respect I liken it to the 5th.

Eddie Calvert's version of Oh Mein Papa hit #1 in its fourth week on in 1922. Pump up the jam was the first house song to crack the USA mainstream market.
Rodri Santos
A lot of people have heard Sandstorm but knowing it's name is a different issue :p .
The unbeatable track is this:
Darude vs Robert Miles - Children of the Sandstorm (Tiësto Mashup) a track i find very handy to play in a club when you want to start building your set.
And do you remember the "I'm Scatman" song? Thats also a very overrated track.
