Has anybody seen this? Because it looks incredible (for a monster movie).

Writer-director Gareth Edwards says the budget was more than the figure often quoted in online gossip - a paltry $15,000 - but not much more.

Our heroes are photojournalist Kaulder and Sam, Kaulder's boss's daughter. We meet them in Mexico some time after a NASA probe has returned from Jupiter's moon Europa . The mission was an outstanding success in that it discovered extraterrestrial life , but a disastrous failure in that it crashed upon re-entry and scattered alien spores over Central America. These then grew into giant roving cephalopod-like organisms, and colonised a large swathe of Mexico. This region has been declared a no-go infected zone.

But that was six years ago. No longer headline news, the alien presence on Earth has receded into the background and is "just one of those things". It's like, says Edwards, if Godzilla is the 9/11 of alien movies - a devastating shock invasion coming out of nowhere - he wanted to make the Afghanistan war of alien movies, something that the public has got used to. With the aliens on their doorstep, however, the US government is taking extreme and destructive action to try and secure its border.

Against this backdrop, Sam and Kaulder (Whitney Able and Scoot McNairy) have to cross the infected zone in order to return to the US.

Filmed guerrilla-style in six weeks with a cast of two and a crew of six, making use of people they met in Mexico and often improvising dialogue, the film blurs the line between documentary and feature film.

Released Oct 29 2010? Didn't hear anything about it, but would definitely check it out.

Just watched it the other night and I'd say 8 out of 10. Good movie and the acting was great too
stren
well ,we WERE warned to stay away from Europa

That was actually really good, the ''monsters'' themselves looked like the mixture of an octopus and one of those bioluminescent squids

ing great movie. It's like Cloverfield meets Book of Eli somehow.

It's almost worth seeing just for the cinematography, alone, but everything else in the movie was excellent, too.

Yeah!, to me it seemed like a mixture between Cloverfield and The Mist

i saw a screening of it, movie was good, it's not really about the monsters at all, it's a love story with monsters in. the picture is absolutely gorgeous, and the sound track was scored by Jon Hopkins, which was one of my favorite scores of all year, such intense music, if anything go see it in a theater, if you can, the music is crazy :eyes:

Ah, I can definitely see The Mist influencing it. It's just a great film and hopefully others will be compared to it, in time.

Just don't expect a lot of action or thrills- it's not that kind of movie, despite what the trailer would suggest.

That's actually good news to me. With monster movies (a la Godzilla, etc.) I'm usually more interested in the context than the destruction. Sure it's cool to see aliens/monsters destroy stuff, but on a human level I find the social implications most interesting - the interview with the director where he said he wanted to make the Afghanistan War of monster movies - one where the public had come to terms with their presence - was what drew me to the trailer initially. It's the same reason I loved District 9 - how humans would react to a permanent presence rather than a sudden appearance is a far more compelling plot line to me.

You'll love it then, I promise.
