It's not dj skill. Or if it is it looks as though dj mag is being selective in which djs have 'skill' and their definition is at best some loose description...

The only criteria for entry to this is anything that draws attention to DJ Mag. Clearly they're trying to expand on their success with the yearly top 100. Omitting someone like Digweed just sounds like a tactic to stir up drama in the same way that American Idol and Dancing with the Stars cut talented acts and keep names that will draw more viewers.

there are many important people on this list like david mancuso, alfredo, francis grasso, larry levan etc but are they the best djs in the world? probably not. It should be best technical skill/music selection combined and it would be wayy to difficult to narrow it down just to one.

This poll is Mixmag, not DJ Mag. Your latter point may explain Digweed's omission. After all, the whole competition is a marketing ploy. The motivation to be controversial is even greater, precisely because the magazine knows how much of a hissy fit people have when they read their rival's annual poll.

For a poll that is trying to determine the greatest DJ over a long period of time, rather than simply over a year, surely you need to take account of non-technical factors, such as the contribution to the evolution of the music. It was through creativity, dynamism and the pushing of the musical boundaries, that the art of DJ'ing was invented, and why it still flourishes today. You need pioneers and risk-takers to re-invigorate a staid scene by injecting new ideas, not just those DJ's that follow in the slipstream. Standing on the shoulders of giants, and all that.

In addition to Digweed, I have just realised, where on earth is Danny Tenaglia!? :wtf: Such an awesome ambassador for the scene.
