What kind of opener plays the headlining DJ's tracks? I've never seen that before. Sometimes they go a little too hard, sure, but I've never seen somebody open for say, Armin, by playing a bunch of popular ASOT tracks.

Well, I think Marcus Schossow played Heaven Scent at Monster Massive just a couple of hours before Diggers took the same stage, but I just assumed he got permission. :P

A bad one. :p

Schulz playing heaven scent before digweed is a little different cause at a massive they're all headliners and they're not really expected to "open" for the guy after them. Still, its in kind of poor taste.

Ha, you'll be surprised. Doesn't have to be someone open for #1 in the world, this happens at clubs all the time. From OC to LA to SF and beyond... I definitely think its more common to have something like this happen, then someone playing a correct and respectable opening set for the headliner.. That's why a lot of big guys bring their own opening DJ sometimes.. tired of this crap happening, that some bedroom DJ got a chance to open up (cause they are playing for free) and they think its their time to "shine" lol..

Cant even count how many times I had to tell someone playing an open set to bring it down... happens more times then I don't...

I guess it's a bit of a balacing act. I don't have a problem with an opener playing a few anthem tracks, as long as it's in the middle of his or her set rather than right before the headliner goes on.

As a fan of multiple genres of EDM, it seems like it would be simple to just choose a style that doesn't clash with the headliner. I suppose a lot of DJs have more specific taste, though.

I remember when a track was played by an opener for Marco V and it was a track Marco V had done one of the most popular remix of and surely would be a key track in his set. Bad bad...

I remember when Air for Life was playing...by an opener to Above & Beyond. The worst...

I remember hearing a Markus Schulz/Departure track like 7 times in one night in multiple rooms. Oh, and Boris MD (Departure) and Markus Schulz both spun that night. But pretty much every other DJ seemed to play it that night, too. Blown away.

A night with a full proper opener, and an amazing headliner beats any other. I have never left a night where an open played anthems feeling that was an ultimate ride. The opener is basically the first hill in a roller coaster lead up to the the biggest part of the track. That's where the headliner takes over, carries you up the main part of the track and peaks then takes you on a big ole rollar coast the rest of the night. (what a horrible analogy, lol)

If a headliner peaks to high or over does the anthems, it takes some of the potential peak away from the headliner. That's why you don't play anthems. Out of respect for the vibe and out of respect for the headliner.

If you do, do it as a closer. Not as an opener.

too funny all of the above.

I think a big problem is that some clubs are too cheap to book a "real" seasoned opener/DJ that knows whats up. And rather take any new bedroom DJ as long as they will play for free and bring 50 of their friends from Facebook ha ha lol... Sad but true...

Yeah, but there are a lot of bedroom DJs out there that actually know what's up. If only the clubs could find them. :)

*cough* I'm right here!

(Actually no, get back to me in like 3 months, I need more practice)

true and also another problemis they think buy banging it all out at 10pm they are impressing , the promoter, the headlining dj, etc , but they dont realize they are hurting themselves and disrespecting the main act , and for gods sake WHEN WILL DUTCH GARBAGE MUSIC die out lol had to add that in there
