The sound was fine on Saturday in my opinion. Maybe Callaghan had it cranked a little much but otherwise it was great. I have to agree with Nick on this one. Its the DJ that generally s the sound over by screwing up the levels.
superluminal
The DJs EQ settings matter a lot, but it also really depends on the acoustics of where you're standing too. Clearly the bass is too high when all you hear is distorted bass throbbing and drowning out the mids, like most of Tyas' set.

KH sound >> Guv sound.
W&W > Wallbridge > JOC(1st hour) > Tyas

I think for me the Guv system isn't on it's own. It's just in comparison with KH. And when you have both rooms sitting a couple seconds away from each other you can almost directly compare them. When I hear an artist I like coming to the Guv complex first thing I do is cross my fingers it's in KH for that sweet sweet system.

And ya you can say it's the artists fault and maybe they should be keeping it away from cranked in the Guv. But I can't really recall any shows in the KH where slamming the volume up made it should like . In fact it's quite the opposite...

I don't think that many people slam the Guv as a whole, we can all agree our lives would be substantially crappier without that place around. The list of talent they brought in for 2010 was insane no matter what you're into. People just like to whine n bitch about whatever they can and for the Guv the easiest target is the sound system. If they made that better then people would just move on to target #2... Welcome to human nature.

Bingo.

I disagree, everytime I am there for all access, easily Guv sound > KH sound. KH sounds muffled as Guv has more resolution.

The poor sound system problem can easily solved if the DJ takes 5 mins to go to the middle of the dancefloor and listen to the sound. If there is something wrong, tell the sound engineer to fix it.

I know this isn't exactly a practical solution because he'd probably get crowded for autographs and pics and such but isn't the DJ responsible for overall product of his set, which includes the sound?
At least get someone to give him a feedback how it sounds on the dancefloor.

Fair enough. They should sort it out before the set though or have someone do it for the dj...

It would be great if the dj did it themselves, I remember seeing Armin for the first time at the first Labour of Love, he was having such a good time he actually DID come onto the dancefloor to party w us afterwards. It was hilarious.

Yeah, how weird. Patrick in the navy? We saw all the navy(?) guys in dress uniform so that was my guess.

For sure, I'll try and find you next show we're both at. I won't be able to make it to Christopher Lawrence unfortunately. Bad timing for me.

No those Uniformed guys got there just as we were leaving lol.
And no worries about the 17th, there's plenty more shows coming up in 2011 ;)

I agree with you. I find the sound bounces around KH, because it's such a large room. It does sound rather muffled as well. I prefer the sound in Guv, BUT, you have to be in the middle of the dancefloor/sauna, not on the sides, or right up in front of the booth, to get the best out of it. You have to be right at/or behind the large speakers at the right and left sides of the dancefloor.

edit: I think both rooms have their 'sweet spots'. You just have to find them ;)

haha I just remembered that! The whole squadron was doing a drill outside Guv at like 6am in the morning. It was hilarious!

THANK YOU! If we are talking about the same thing, the sound bounces more at KH, I believe, because time alignment/delay settings are set more accurately at Guv. There was not a single time, I preferred the sound of KH over Guv. Everyone likes different types of sounds as well, so that is another factor. And I cant stress it enough, that some dj's overdrive the amps with boosted EQ settings, causing more distortion, therefore jacking db's even higher, and ultimately overdriving our ears and causing them to ring.

Well that's most likely it, difference in taste. But I'd take the sound reflection (I know what you're talking about but I think it's minimal, specially when the room is packed) in KH over the distortion in Guv. I can handle distortion in headphones, a car, computer speakers etc. But when I'm paying $80 for a ticket to see a DJ I want to hear that crisp and clean like the KH always delivers.

Will try to find that sweet spot you guys are talking about in Guv though. I admit when I'm there it's usually closer to the stage so maybe that's part of the problem...
