If GSP had've been peaking during Gretsky's time, I think they would've been equal in different places....

I'm pretty sure Tyson was just as big as Gretzky was in that era no??

I can almost guarantee that if GSP was where he is now when you were in Russia, you'd know of him too..

UFC is huge over there isn't it??

Ali is bigger than both. But what does that have to do with anything? Neither Ali or Tyson are Canadian.

On a related note - UFC 131 at Rogers Centre on April 30!

Ali's time was way before theirs and I was comparing a fighters popularity to a hockey players...

But yes this is supposed to be a Canadian comparison so I think it goes back to the article writers original point that it's like comparing apples to oranges...

Side question...

Does GSP beat Koschek this weekend???

I think the only way he loses is if he gets caught with a lucky button hit...

There is no way GSP loses.

I hate that expression because you can totally compare apples and oranges. A more valid expression would be "it's like comparing apples and carbon nanotubes."

None of the black guys we've discussed were THAT black...

Exactly, there is always a small chance Kos hits him just right but chances are he wont get a chance. GSPs wrestling is light year a head, if he gets into any trouble look for him to take it to the ground.

Now with the GSP vs. Gretzky comments...its hard to judge. MMA is a much more of a global sport than hockey. Both were/are dominating in their respective sports.

You would have to factor in the era they lived in. Wayne didn't have the power of the internet/twitter/youtube when he was putting up record setting numbers.

I think a better comparison would be Crosby vs GSP
