I wore earbuds on the plane this weekend. It just reminded me how much I despise them. My left ear is always killing me after I put them on. Somehow strangely enough my right ear is ok.

as much as i hate earbuds, i have found a pair i can actually use.

klipsch s4 (or s4i if you want to use a mic for your phone) $80

highs pissed me off on live sets, but they're fine on 320s and wavs. you get used to the highs though and i guess some people wouldn't even notice. lows are good for ear buds and mids are clear.

for $80 and using them at the gym or on public transport, i think they're fairly priced for what you get.

I can't get use to earbuds, they just don't feel right for me. I'm using Denon AH-D1000 for a few years now and love them. They are light and feel in place when I'm wearing them.

yea i had that problem too with my other ones. you should try these though, i run with them and they rarely fall out unless i pull on them. they give you multiple sizes to use so you can use one that best fits your ear size.

All right, so here is my official review: I started off with the apple default earbuds: CRAP. Upgraded to the Klipsche S4 earbuds for abotu 75. They are an amazing upgrade from the apple. Base is nice and the highs are great, plus they cancel out enough noise that you can hear the music on the subway (unlike the apple). Plus they are pretty comfortable.

I picked up the Sennheiser HD II and used them for about a two weeks. The base was incredible and the highs were clear. However, at times I felt the base was a little overpowering (perhaps I was just used to earbuds). However, for prolonged use, an hour +, they got a little uncomfortable. There was a constant pressure on my ears and if i had a slight headache, the headphones made it significantly worse.

I returned the HD II and picked up the Shure SE530. They are very weird at first use and take a bit for the cord to form to your ear (thats right the cord actually has memory plastic in it). The highs are very clear but the base is a little lacking. As for sound canceling, they are very competent, but not as well as the Sennheiser, but that is as expected. The other very impressive thing that i noticed is that in the cold, where other earbud wires get cold, stiff and fall out, the Shures get cold stiff and due to the over ear design actually get more secure, a huge plus over the Klipsche which I found myself constantly putting back in my ears esp if I was wearing a hoodie.

All in all, if i were to do the headphone search again I might still look for an headphone design over a earbud but focus my search on comfort rather than "dj preformance". Although I love the portability and compactness of earbuds

edit: apple
