true, but there's still comfortable/portable for dj use and for listening use. hence why those sennheisers had too much bass (as they're mainly geared for djs)
almost all of the best listening headphones are open back (which of course will negate any noise-cancelling you might want)
although there ARE some headphones out there that combine comfort/closed back and still have a balanced soundstage
check these out if you get a chance:

i haven't worn these for extended times but they feel close in weight and cushioning to the senn 595's which are insanely comfortable. |

| Yea i tried those out at B&H, they have a great wall of headphones you can try on and listen to. But I was sketched out about cleanliness and deff didn't try them for any duration of time |

surprised not one of you has tried or recommended the Bose earbuds...they're extremely comfortable, come with diff size silicon tips that fit the ear canal naturally. sounds is great on them...nothing that'll blow away professional phones for studio/DJ use, but for personal use and extended listening, they're excellent.
I gave up buds a long time ago til I got a pair of the Bose buds...worth trying them out! |

I have the same ones. They're quite good imo. My dad just got a pair of high end Bose over-the-ear headphones and I can't really tell any difference in sound quality. |

Yea mine fell out of my pocket as i was getting out of my car, stomped them out lol. They were good, much better than apple bs earbuds. |
well, this happened to me finally in january, except i got them stuck in the car door and they dragged for 3 miles to the gym.
now i'm using the new allen & heath xone xd-20's and they're actually a bit better on the highs. you hear a little bit more of outside noise than on the klipsch s4's and the angle to get them in your ears takes some getting used to. recommend them a fractional amount more than the s4's - both are great in ears! |

I'm just used to my Sennheiser HD 650's though, which are probably the best sound quality I've ever heard (powered with my headphone amp and stuff on a wav file). The other headphones I have are the Sony MDR 7506 which Paul van Dyk always uses to DJ. I used to love those a lot. VERRRRY comfortable when you put them on your ears, but I get a lot of ear fatigue from them after an hour or so. The Sennheiser HD 650's are super cushioned and no ear fatigue for me, and the sound is literally top-notch. They go for $500 in stores but the street price is about $325 (that's how much I got them for). Also, they are open-back and pretty big. Otherwise, those sony's would be my recommendation (I think they are only $90 in stores now?) The sound quality is excellent, although it may be a little bit too bright (burn-in time needed).
For earbuds, I've tried like $70 sony earbuds, skull candies, apple ipod headphones, and believe me, I absolutely prefer $21 JVC Marshmallows! I'm not kidding! The noise cancellation is pretty great actually, and I get zero fatige from them (I listen to music about 2-3 hours a day). Try them out, they will surprise you! |

| So what did you end up buying, and are you happy with it? |

I ended up getting the Shure SE 425
Link: http://www.shure.com/americas/produ...ating-earphones
And I have very mixed perception. The clarity is simply amazing, they cancel plenty of sound for my use (trains, subways, and even people talking directly at me 3 feet away).
The way the wire fits over your ear gets some getting used to, literally, it's 'memory wire' so it takes some time to mold. Which at first is very annoying because you simply can't get a good seal/sound. But now is VERY comfortable
However, they are very lacking in the base department, almost non-existent, the klipsch s4 had substantial more.
So I guess the question is, are the Shure's that much better/worth the price tag? About 4x the klipsch. Sound quality is much better - the base + more comfortable.
The other advantage to the shure's is simply the investment. I found myself running through earbuds, about 1 every 4 months, because I wouldn't take care of them, I would just shove em in my pocket. However, now I am very careful to put them away properly. So if it means these will be the last pair of earbuds I buy they are worth it, but i guess only time will tell. |
