Any thoughts? Sorry to hijack thread.

Bollocks!!

Loads of top producers use it. I A/B it with ableton using a few samples and synths and I couldn't tell any difference.. For a while I wanted to get into it but got frustrated not knowing how to do things instantly with it and just stuck with live because I know it pretty well.

Here's mine

Playstation music 2000 :p -> Pc Reason 2.5 -> Reason 3 + live -> live
soundcard soundblaster audigy 2 platium.. still got it, I know it sucks bad but in that time I got married had kids and went back to college (still there now) so aint really had money to upgrade yet

It is just one of many examples where he tries to justify his lack of progress by blaming or rationalizing his tools and workflow. He tries to point his lack of goal reaching by pointing the finger at all the wrong places. He means well tho.
Andy28
Well for me, I do have goals but Im in no hurry to achieve them, making music is a hobby, I enjoy it but Im not "chasing labels" if you like.

19 is when I started out with Reason.

Progression of equipment is overrated anyway. Progression of skill is way more important. If I had started out with everything I have right now, I doubt my stuff would have been much better than it was back then. Maybe less, because I would have been going from synth to synth all the time rather than concentrating on a single program.

I'd like to find that out for myself :)

I wouldn't mind a synth or two, but honestly, a good sound card and monitors is all the gear am wishing for right now. A pc upgrade would be nice too, but not essential at all.

When I started, I spent about 20 000 in one month then a few more over the year. Been streamlining everything. I do have a nice computer set up , 2 mac pros, one with an apogee ensemble and the other with a duet, Genelecs, a nice controller but thats it.

I've tried Reason, not a fan

I think skill is obviously a better thing to progress with than equipment but kind of like M4B, when I started playing guitar I immediately bought a nice amp and a Boss GT10 multi-effects processor, then not long after that a Gretsch Electromatic, before I even knew how to play a song from beginning to end. It helped immensely, having that effects processor to toy around and experiment with as I was learning. I kind of wonder if that's something that would have applied to my music too.

Not that I care, my workflow is probably unusable to 90% of producers but it works well enough for me, at least for now until I actually start improving on it

Reason -> FL -> Cubase -> Ableton -> Logic (now)

Started on a ty PC with onboard sound then built a hackintosh to run OSX and logic. Currently using a Native Instruments Audio Kontrol 1 as my sound card, zero issues with this little box.

Midi controller was an Oxygen 8 in the beginning and now I'm on a cheap m-audio keystudio 49 with a pair of Mackie MR8s. Highly efficient setup for me the only thing I think I need is a second if not third LCD monitor. Dual LCD screens are a must I hate only having one right now.
