I don't know them - I'll try to remember to check em out, cheers

I'm a pretty good lyricist, but I started writing lyrics before I got into producing EDM.

[EDIT: I found better lyrics to put here]

You may disagree with what this song is about (It's about the Iraq war) but here are the lyrics.

I am against the Iraq war, too, but those lyrics are not good.

Sorry. :p

I don't disagree with you, but this just shows that it's pretty subjective. I mean, he's happy with them so they're good to him, undoubtedly to other people.

Even ty lyrics could be transformed by the song.

What do you think is a song with good lyrics?

I think a left brained person could train themselves to summon up their artistic side. Take a break from all distractions, get alone where it's quiet, take a joyride, look at some nice scenery. Thinking deep is where it's at.
I would say i'm left brained. I hate the whole hemisphere , it makes everything seem so much simpler than it is. I doubt it's right, and even if it is i certainly hate to think of it that way.

So you say soldiers are fighting for lives,
But sometimes it seems like you're telling me lies,
The government says we need war in iraq,
You can see in his face it's an empty attack.

9/11 Was a tragic event,
But we killed more innocents in our dissent,
We're running and hiding and living in fear,
And everyone's lying and nothing is clear.

Take what you want from this, you know it's true,
Like suffocation, it's turning us blue,
The land of the free, and the home of the brave,
Completely obscene, the way we behave

Reacting with fear, in turn causing more
Their blood and their tears are lying on the floor,
Fight war with war, but nobody wins,
You just collect more blood of innocence.

And all we're doing is fighting an unwinnable war.

Run away from this.
Blood on our fists.
Run away from this.
Blood on our fists.

Tears falling from their eyes, call them uncivilized,
Cause we can't realize, the pain they symbolize,
Muffle their cries and feed media lies,
Keep our image safe in society's eyes.

We act like we're strong but we're nothing but cowards,
Forgotten our cause, emotionless shadows
We no longer know what we're striving towards
Resulting with nothing but bittersweet sorrow

Hold your breath, hold your breath, nobody knows
nobody cares, these are innocent souls
Somebody tell me how we can just go
and tear away their only small shred of hope

I want it to stop, want the fire to cease
Cause I can't sleep conscious of blood on our hands
I wish we could see through our vanity's shield
Why can't we rise beyond government demands

And you can take their lives away
And you can justify your cause
They'll never see the light of day
So we can disguise our flaws

But all we're doing is fighting an unwinnable war.

Run away from this,
Blood on our fists,
Run away from this,
Blood on our fists,

Run away from this,
Blood on our fists,
Run away from this,
Blood on our fists.

Congratulations dude! good stuff here. Do you have the lyrics down in a track?

a heavy metal arrangement would be very nice!

Just use your imagination, everyone has imagination, left or right brained aside. That's the key. Feel free to inflate the meanings of things, and change perspectives

If you like it, it's good and people will hate it.

I like Pink Floyd's lyrics. Especially on Dark Side of the Moon. For a song about war, I like "Feel Like I'm Fixin' To Die" by Country Joe and the Fish. For something more recent and electronic (not about war), I like "55566688833" by James Figurine.

You're right, of course, that this is very subjective. I could go into a few reasons why I didn't like his lyrics, but I won't unless Seandroid is interested.

Dear Gaia, I'm leaving...
it's farewell. Won't cry

You're freezing
World's seizing
Bye sunrise
Ciao! eclipse

We left our legacy
Blast off into sky
Dear Terra, I'm flying
My tears - they ran dry

Barren and frozen
Red dwarf at the dawn
Zemlya ty rodnaya
Proshay milyu dom!*

Deep oceans
Blue mountains
And deserts

You're freezing

Time freaks me out. I feel different every time i finish listening to that song. It's like coming of an lsd trip.

That song is absolutely beautiful in many ways, i agree with you. It's not as if it's full of abstract thought or symbolism. I think anyone has the capability to write something like that. When i read the lyrics it's not as if i'm hit with the realization that these lyrics are just beyond my capability, in fact the most striking part about them is how down to earth they are. It just feels like you could've written them

There are so many ways to approach lyrics, i don't think which side of your brain has the most activity determines songwriting ability. That wouldn't make sense if only people with predominantly right sided brains could write lyrics well enough for everyone to enjoy, even if you have a left brain slant only people right sided brains can write good lyrics. It seems silly. Everyone has their own thinking, and imagination and can write their own lyrics if they try. You just have to try, and not be afraid, go with something and run with it. Give it meaning.

Exaggeration is the songwriters best friend.

Reading books, listening to songs with good lyrics, movies, news, hiking, just getting away from your mundane activities, and doing something can inspire you. Don't be afraid to steal concepts and references. If it strikes you, run with it. Literature is definitely the biggest help. Steal a metaphor or two, change em or whatever you have to do.

I realize at some point i stopped responding to you jbj but, eh. :p

Do lyricists usually come up with a melody, or is that separate?

Yeah dude, go ahead ;-) Like I said - i wasn't even trying hard, to be honest. I'd love to write something worthy of a song - as I do actually enjoy writing, just need inspiration but I don't do any vocals. If you can, let me hear your idea for a melody - maybe I can do even better. ;)
