most musical artists/influences have used drugs in the late 1960-late1990s phase. (influential Trance came out around the rise of ecstasy use in the mid 90s to early 2000) hmmm, I wonder why everybody said Trance back then was so much better? The reason why most Trance nowadays suck is because Tiesto, PVD, Armin, Sasha, Digweed, and whoever else have probably stopped using drugs to make their music. think about it, theyre hella old now

Considering it was listed in the Merck Manual in the 1930's, I'd say it's been influencing music for quite a bit longer than that. You're only aware of its influence on music in the '90's because it had been legal in the '80's, and the synthesis was published after Alexander Shulgin dusted it off and listed it in a book called PiHKAL (Penethylamines I Have Known And Loved) in 1991.
In fact, it's closely related (in precursors, synthesis, and effects) to another synthetic drug, called MDA (Methylenedioxyamphetamine) which was known as the "Love" drug which was known to the '70's disco era. It's therefor safe to say that your historical assessment is somewhat inaccurate, leaving out some fundamental understanding of how the drug was developed and the scope of its influence, not simply regarding music but also concerning its intended clinical uses.
The notion that music has gotten worse because producers stopped using it is absurd. One must conclude that music, itself, has gotten worse to begin with and since it's nearly impossible to apply a qualitative measure to the sum of all (EDM) music, published during the given time period, such a claim cannot be accurately established. The other side of this is that manufacture of MDMA has been affected by the availability of its precursors so that it can no longer feasibly be made in the United States with the former potency it had.
What's more likely is that you can't get a hold of a decent source of foreign made MDMA and are still listening to the same type of crap that sounded great on MDMA made in the 1990's and have deduced that producers are creatively stifled because they don't use MDMA. |

People always look at the past with nostalgia. Music hasn't gotten worse, it's just human nature to put the past in a positive light. It's the same as parents and such saying "kids these days are so le horrible we were such hard workers when we were kids blah blah blah" when their parents said exactly the same thing about them.
In 10 years, just you watch, people will bitch about how much better trance was now than it is then. |

I always thought "As the Rush Comes" was about sex. Then again, I've never used E.
"Feel It In My Bones" is not about drugs. Tegan & Sara make scorned-lover indie rock, and that's what the song is about.
Honestly, the fact that I don't use E and I rarely interpret lyrics as being about drugs proves that everyone sees their own meaning in the song. To me, "Just Dance" by Lady Gaga is about having a crazy, drunken night. I've heard some people say they think it's about date rape. Different interpretations.
It's not like all trance songs are supposedly about drugs, though, Jan Johnston's "Flesh" and Andain's "Beautiful Things" are (most likely) about suicide, for instance. Heavy stuff for a nightclub. |

Kinda funny , even though i hardly agree on this still , a good point for discussion ;D I do remember one song , i think some people know this golden 90's song Dune - Can't Stop Raving , not Trance , but hey still it is quite popular , at least it was back in the day ;] If i interpret the lyrics like you do then it sounds like this.

the lyrics doesn't change no matter how you interpret them, the meaning might, but it still sounds exactly the same.

your last point about it just being a fun song to you isn't an argument against it being about drugs. basically your entire post is useless, and the probability that this is as well is high. |
