if that's the case, is the hollywood foreign press association going to ban robert deniro for his jokes when he was making his lifetime achievement award speech? i never knew how much of a sense of humor deniro has. :p
sorry just a hulu link. i don't think the non-us people can see the video ...
WittyHandle
I generally think he's funny. Didn't catch most of the show last night, but I thought his last line of "I'd like to thank God for making me an atheist" was a perfect example of his overly smug side. Everyone who knows anything about him knows his stance, but pushing it in people's face was just obnoxious. He is a textbook case of very intelligent people who are easily lured into cynicism.

pretty funny: Could have been so much better- Gervais is one of the more heavy handed, less witty britishers- he's been in the US too long :p
should have had simon amstell host, would have been absolutely amazing :stongue: :stongue:

Whatever, the guy is funny & he's just cracking jokes. Hollywood needs to get a grip.
The whole existence of Hollywood is based on lack of grip.
edit: ok so I just watched that opening monologue...lol it was pretty funny but hardly enough to get that sort of reaction. what a bunch of pansies

Then Gervais went missing, sparking lurid speculation on blogs and Twitter. Where had Gervais gone? Had the host been killed or merely given his marching orders? "Others have joked but I think it's getting to the point where it may be true," wrote Hollywood publicist Lewis Kay. "Did the Hollywood Foreign Press Association fire Gervais midway through the show?"
Even when Gervais eventually returned, observers noted that he seemed subdued, leading to suggestions that he had been asked to tone down his routine. According to CNN host Piers Morgan, Gervais looked "haunted". He vowed to ask the comedian: "What the hell did they do to you backstage?"
Following the ceremony, Tim Allen, Tom Hanks and Robert Downey Jr all appeared to be at least mildly uncomfortable with Gervais's performance. "It's one thing if it's just the people in the room, but on a broadcast it makes you feel bad for some of the people," said Richard D Zanuck, producer of the Globe-nominated Alice in Wonderland. "I know it's what some people want, but I still feel bad."
lol... what a bunch of Hollywood pussies. When they get "honored" at a celebrity roast, they get an hour strait of getting ripped to shreds. Now what- Johnny Depp is mad because he got called out for his movie sucking, Robert Downey Jr. is mad because his rehab visits were brought up, and Tim Allen got laughed at (he should be happy that he finally found a way to get some laughs)?

I thought Gervais' funniest line was when he was talking about Mark Zuckerberg and said, "I heard he was worth $7 billion, this guy... what's his name... Mark Zuckerberg. Or as Heather Mills refers to him, "the one that got away".

:haha:
I thought he was pretty funny in a 'Captain Obvious' over the top way. He did warn the pre-announcers on the way in that he had some heavy stuff up his sleeve that he was debating putting out there.
This is the first time I was not absolutely bored stiff watching the show.
Lira
He knew he was going to get sacked after that, the guy said he wasn't going to do it again:
