Some of these DJ's? They just bury their heads in their laptops and click a button to play a song. No instrumentation or anything.

Yeah but the ones that make the money also produce and were around in the days of vinyl spinning so they have some street credit to them. A Dj is on the road more than even the band KISS or Metallica. and when they spend the summer in Ibiza, the club prices are almost 100 dollars a person. Plus their alias they use to produce music under.

ok but this is about tiesto, tiesto does something, a little bit but something at least. Richie Hawtin,Zabiela,Deadmau5 use laptops but do more. I can imagine a lot of laptop dj's that do what you say but their income should be low, very low. Could you list some big names that just press play?¿ (Well there is a rumour that says that AvB plays pre recorded sets but he acts like he mix at least, just someone who press play, sit down and charge at the end of the gig)

I can't name a press and play Dj except for Deadmau5 which you already mentioned but I think right now all Dj's no matter what equipment they use are all going for an image or "brand" so they can sell themselves. It's not about the equipment or what they play, I just realized this right now...it's all about making an image for yourself.

Yes Tiesto Armin Guetta Mau5 are a brand, you see for example that Deadmau5 tracks are produced by Joel Zimmerman, is funny is like saying "my name is not cool enough for my music so i create a shape for it" the deadmau5 mask ... is all about marketing. Deadmau5 is press & play but is slightly different to a dj, isn't a dj in fact his thing is playing his own music and i see he has drum machines and other fx's so i think it's kind of a live set. I am not against this in djing but if all you do is play an ableton live set or press the sync button on traktor, you suck.

Those that have attained that kind of success have, for the most part, put in their time/due and deserve it. As mentioned earlier, oOnce you get to that level you need a small staff to handle your career - it's not a 1-man-show where they pocket all that cash. Further, they wouldn't be making that much unless promoters/club-owners were profiting from booking them to perform in the first place! What's the problem here?

I think many people waste their time getting annoyed when they start equating how much an artist makes with the 'quality' of their music. It's not a linear relationship... it's all about demand and marketing.

Yea and he ed everyone over on royalties while he was at it.

I saw him live once in philly. He played Rhythm Gangster - Crowd Song twice in one set. It was embarassing.

QFT.

How else would Fergie, after her dreadful Super Bowl performance, make so much money?

Because she is a brand name and she paid her dues with her work with The Blackeye Peas.
