I really had no issues whatsoever with Lee's mixing, programming, or anything technically related - I thought for that style of music, it was the best set I've ever heard hands down. With so many elements, vocals, pianos, melodies etc, it really is a hell of a lot tougher to put together a complete set, as well as how to mix it (timing especially) - and I thought it was near flawless. I've heard several stories about Lee getting too sucked into a party, and it distracting him at times - but there was absolutely no sign of that Saturday night - in fact, quite the opposite. He arrived before midnight, and caught pretty much my entire set, which is a first for me from any headliner I've opened for.
To put the night into perspective when I made the "game changer" remark, Addy and I had a lengthy conversation about how this is exactly what the scene needed. Old school vibes (and music really) - people smiling, and positivity instead of politics. One comment I made, was that the success of the Friday "Luv This City" brand, has given Footwork's Saturdays an opportunity to take a chance on a booking like Foss, and a brand like "The Modern Love Affair". They both work hand in hand, while actually providing two very unique musical experiences.
Just thought I'd chime in elaborate what I meant, and give kudos to Footwork for making this happen. I've been in love with this sound for years, and for the first time ever - felt like it was fully embraced by everyone in a club - with no pressure to "toughen" up the music, based on current trends or popular genres. A great sign of things to come.. :) |
This entire post made me smile :D You know I've always loved your sound. I'm happy to hear it's starting to make bigger waves in our scene/city! woo! |

| I really wish I went to this instead of Robert Babicz. That party was good but not GREAT like this sounds. |

Also forgot to mention that he completely stopped the music at 3am (to a huge ovation) then proceeded to finish his set off with 30 minutes of his "lighter" and popular material including "U Got Me" (which I thought was near impossible, considering the level of bombs he reached by that point). Where I think this would fail for most DJ's to do (especially at peak time at a club) - everyone had no choice but to eat it up. I repeat - no choice. lol |
that was just a song with silence in the breakdown. . . music wasn't stopped.
agoria remix of big fun. . . |

Good ear - I was in the back of the club at that point, and the way he switched it up after that I mistakened it for a break in the music. Thanks for catching that ;) |
