Size of EDM market?

Does anyone have an idea as to the size of the electronic music industry?

I can find ample stats about how many albums Michael Jackson sold or Lady Gaga but none for the overall size of the EDM market.

Any sources would be great thanks =]

the problem is that actual and potential are so far apart.

Is it?

the average person has no idea where to buy dance music. They are stuck to listening to dj mixes.

everyone can type on google and buy music. EDM market isn't very big, if you try to download michael jackson's album you'll find problems to download a quality copy of it illegally, in edm is easier to find a 320kbps mp3 than a bad quality one.

On your local music stores you can have a shelve for edm, all will be filled but pseudo edm acts like Rihanna Lady Gaga or David Guetta and ocasionally some Armada/Ultrarecords compilation or album.

The rest of the store will be non edm music, in some stores is easier to find some obscure album of a estonian heavy metal band than a Ferry Corsten album.

Depends if you count lady gaga as EDM.

the problem is that they don't know what to buy because producers are hidden behind the dj. This is why I suggested djs have their tracks broadcasted on some screen. People want to buy it, they don't know where and they don't know what.

i've always thought that clubs lack of a screen behind the dj with the tracklist of the show... now you have shazam to recognize the tracks but i don't know how accurate it is

The problem with Shazam and similar apps is that it is largely dependent on people who actually get paid to go out and find the newest and most hip/popular music. Which will almost never be EDM, but only the Lady Gaga's and Justin Biebers of this world.

Define market?

- market size? measured in
- revenue?
- committed airtime?
- ecosystem commerce?
- time spend by engineers?
- paid jobs in the genre?
- Podcast marketshare by genre?
- instrument / software / hardware manufacturers?

Not sure what you're after?

seems you can buy the information for $4000 dollars but is there no where its reported for free?

I found that in the UK in 2007 25% of all albums sold were dance compilations which was shocking.

I'd be willing to bet money that I could find a 320 kbps or even a FLAC version of his entire discography in a few minutes. It's definitely not easier to find random EDM tracks that have very little demand on their own compared to someone like MJ.
