Classic, simple, no-frills. I hate ornate and colors.

This reminds me of my family's stay in Italy.

As a "so long and thanks for all the fish" gift, my dad decided to give our friendly neighbours some wine glasses. However, people there drink wine in regular glasses, so they were perplexed by that :p

Their mid-range stuff is about the same as the riedels I mentioned, but their lower-end is quite a bit less. I may check those out. Thanks.

I own precisely 2 beer-specific glasses, so I don't even know what those are (don't shoot me). What's the most common type of glass? Pics?

pretty good guide right here.

a little trick with china and glassware.

try and buy it around september. older lines will be massively discounted to make room for the newer lines that people will buy for the holiday (aka eating and drunkening) season.

I find if you set a nice table with good food, and nice china, stemless kind of looks a little cheap. The functionality is the same though.

Stemless is ok if you're just having dinner at home or something, but honestly, they get old quick. We have a whole set of stemless wine glasses; red, white & champagne flutes, and honestly they're kinda boring now. Our stemmed wine glasses get used a lot more often.

Which do you wind up using most?

completely agree.

the way things look will not affect the taste, but sometimes things are a little more enjoyable when there is a little bit more elegance involved. I suppose it is the same principle as when chefs say, "you don't just eat with your mouth, you eat with your eyes.".

that being said...this thread is now about people who hold stemware by the top part and look like morons:p

usually just a basic pint glass, unless i'm drinking a white beer or a beer with some sediment in it...then i'll go with a pilsner glass or anything that has a wide head and slim base. I just find that you get less of the sediment rising to the top when you drink.

Beer with sediment? :wtf:

I'm not into wine, so I'm in the market for buying glassware that will help me become a fan.

I seek advice. I do.

shaw
Cheap ones, so you can buy better wine.
Renzo
Paper cups it is.
