Paul van Dyk "Evolution" NEW ARTIST ALBUM 2011 (pg. 22)

For years, one man sat on top of the trance world as the number one DJ. He has topped every known chart, worked with hundreds of artists and won numerous awards. As he embarks on his new tour, Paul Van Dyk is a man with nothing to prove.

In the appropriately named album and tour “Evolution” he demonstrates exactly why he is still one of the top 10 DJ’s in the world, a title he has held since 1998! Other DJ/Producers have evolved by exploring new sounds and have become either jacks of all trades or shadows of their former selves. The evolution of Paul Van Dyk's sound was not into something contrived or commercial, but rather a total immersion into what he does better than anyone else. The man with nothing to prove proved that he is still trance’s reigning master.

The set began with a remixed version of “Time of our Lives.” As the track began to crescendo everyone expected the bass to drop, but I am 100% certain not a single person had any idea what was really about to happen. Hands were in the air. We were front and center. Paul looked over the crowd and produced one of the most devilish smiles I have ever seen. That is the moment he unleashed an unforgiving barrage of high energy, extremely hard yet melodic and uplifting trance that didn’t let up for a single moment. Everyone in attendance had a collective WTF moment. I don’t think anyone expected how hard and loud this journey was going be, but we all held on and didn’t let go. The set included Under World’s “Born Slippy”, Tritonal’s “Still with me” and his new track “Verano”.

Ice Palace is a remarkable venue, both grand and intimate at the same time. Paul was able to interact with the crowd in a way that few other venues could allow. The defining moment of the night for me was hearing “Eternity” for the first time. Paul delivered his master piece. Friends reached out to the friends. Loved ones held each other tighter. Everyone danced! It was truly a moving experience and everyone felt it. My trip to Miami could have ended there, nothing was going to or did top that moment for me.

As I fly back to NYC and reflect on this past week, I think a key take-away is that “evolution” doesn’t have to equate to selling one’s soul or becoming something completely different. Paul has showed us that true growth and evolution comes from becoming better versions of ourselves… masters of our domain.

HELLO PR GUY OF PVD
orestesbenitez
Lol, not his PR guy at all. That recap was originally meant for Elektro Magazine, but we had too many things going on during WMC/Ultra that it got lost in the mix. I didn't want this recap to go to waste.

I've been a huge PvD fan since 2000 and saw him live for the first time in 2001 @ Guvernment, Toronto @ Twilo, NYC and @ Nation, DC... three times just that first year! I've seen him at least once every year since then and think his set at Ice Palace was one his best.. up there with NYE @ Giant, LA and Mayday 2003.

This is my first post to Trance Addict, but I've been coming to this site for years... wanted to see what you all thought of it. EwD why did you repost the album track listing? It's not like Paul hits play on his album when he's on tour lol.

Wait was the year in downtown or the year before at the coli when Sasha went on stage before him. Went to both shows and the one with Sasha was one of the best edm nights I have had, both years he was magnificent but that coli show was the night i feel completely in love with trance. Went to see Sasha came out a huge PVD fan.

Probably because this thread is about the album, not his tour. Not that you can't write about the tour, but questioning an album tracklist in a thread about his album is kind of weird.

That recap was for this year at Ice Palace... walking distance from UMF. Cosmic Gate, Sean Tyas, Showtek, Austin Leeds opened for him, but I got there just in time to see Cosmic Gate wrap up...

I definitely don't wanna debate which set was his best, because he's been a rock star for ages! I would imagine a set with him and Sasha would be monstrous... I'm actually a little jealous. But the set at Ice Palace was definitely up there for me.

Lol... I thought he was trying to correct me, because obviously some of the songs I listed are not on the album. I was just being sarcastic.

However, the very first post of this tread by bartek89 is the track list on the album... also i'm pretty sure after 22 pages of comments everyone knows the tracks on the album.

@ paulversuspaul I'm retarded... You were talking about NYE 2001, not WMC... lol, I need rest. Yes!!! The Coliseum with Sasha!!! Awesome!!!

Awesommmmeeeeeeeeeee! Someone else who was there. Best PVD set ive ever heard. Destroyed it that night. The first time i ever remember people yelling the DJs name in socal, the spontaneous chants of PVD at the end of the night will always be burned in my head.

Dude I have the set recorded if you want it! Still fun to revisit it sometimes.
