| How am I the first person to say I really like their music :wtf:. They're quite good at their instruments and I like their more electronic stuff too. It's certainly in the top 10% of deep house/similar. The folks at isratrance seemed to like them a lot more than you guys, although over there it was all "lacks magic of psytrance". Their tracks also have good progression, which the 60 second clips don't show. |

This thread is just pathetic. I can imagine these were exactly the sort of reactions kraftwerk got when they just started, if there would have been forums back then.
We get it, you don't like it. But then it's probably not fór the likes of you. Also, why is using instruments pretentious? |

but kraftwerk did this decades ago when it was revolutionary, and they produced revolutionary music.
this is a purely aesthetic, retrospective, and ironic take on house music. it's pretentious not because instruments are used, but because of the way they are used and the way their use is presented. |

How on earth is that pretentious? Maybe we've hit a cultural border here, but I think it's more pretentious to see a few men with instruments and automatically expecting classical grandeur. |

they are sitting on antique furniture in designer clothing, playing silly house music rudiments on individual instruments, on top of a white background, in a try-hard deadpan style, and filming the entire thing so as to exaggerate it even further, remove it from reality, and present the performance itself as the art work rather thn the musical content. this has the effect of objectifying and fetishizing individual pieces of electronic music and bringing to them more importance than they deserve, hence it is pretense. it also gives undue importance to the musical form that they are merely replicating with a medium that has obvious cultural weight and importance.

Exactly, just because their style is different doesn't mean they're trying to be pretentious. Nefardec is definitely an idiot. They have plenty of music releases which are both far more electronic and audio only. So I do think it's about the music. |
