There was this other 99-page thread that might have been about funk, to be honest I didn't read all of them, but while I found everything and the kitchen sink in the random ones that I clicked on, there was very little to no real funk ever mentioned.
While I totally get the idea that on a trance-oriented board most people might not want to be bothered figuring out the difference between Curtis Mayfield and Jakatta, should there not be a little thread where real, authentic funky music can be celebrated?
Not house. Not disco. Not techno. Not armchair electronica that happens to use a James Brown loop. None of those qualify as authentic funk. Funk is waaaaay down there, without a mechanical 4/4 beat. Funk is not a Hed Kandi compilation with jazzy guitar chords or somebody sampling a Bootsy Collins yelp. Even tho Derrick Carter's boompty house is great, it's not funk, merely house that has a bit of a funky flavor. And yes, funk can be uptempo!
So it would be great if this could be the thread where real funk is celebrated or debated, (or slagged, or whatever)
With that in mind, here are a few nuggets that have kept me boppin' for a long time.
Would certainly love to hear what some of your favorites are.

Ok let's go! How about soulful funk, jazz funk, or funky disco tracks too? boogie funk? modern funk? some of these will be obvious, hopefully others not.

There's always more where that came from... let's start covering the basics.
when i have access to youtube i'll be back. A funk thread needs the 60's 7inch record additions. I would say from 1965 to 1975 was the best time for funk, until disco came along.
