Any Pro Tools (9) users here?

A thread over on gearslutz asking about PT9's usability as a DAW for EDM got me wondering if anybody else here is using it for producing EDM, since I don't see it mentioned very often. I used it years ago, but sold it at version 7.3 - just before they drastically improved the MIDI features. Anyway, I picked up PT9 on trade a few weeks ago, primarily for some audio-based productions that I'm working on, and I've actually been using it more than Sonar, even for MIDI, which is surprising to me because MIDI was pretty much worthless IMO in the earlier versions.

So, what do you PT guys think of the improvements and the ditching of the proprietary interfaces? Am I correct in my initial reactions - are these changes a major step forward in MIDI-based production?

This thread has a devious underlying purpose as well - I want to smoke out the PT power users so I know who to bug when I have questions. The learning curve is still just as steep as I remember.

the most funny thing is the mastering plugin called Heat. it has two knobs; tone and drive. rofl "this is amazing, you can now make your mix sound like anything you want". retards.

meh...marketing. Most marketing is pretty lame - pretty silly reason to disregard an excellent tool IMO.

if i where in a band and would record vocals, guitars, drums etc, i would look into it put aparantly the midi and plugin-support is rather bad, i doubt its aimed at edm/sequencing. of course it might have improved but it just seems too narrow. i think this is why some pros run both logic and pt.

Care to substantiate those claims by providing some details as to where you think it's lacking, or "too narrow"?

ive never even seen or tried it, im just a hooligan :p
my claims are just assumptions gathered from various forums through the years. but i really have no idea. but the commercial does it for me.

don't see the point for EDM.

multi track beat detective without toolkits is yummy

we have the hd3 version but I tend to just work on my own system so I have rarely used it. The general air from what I can tell is that the customer service has gone down the tube.

I used PT 6 and found it horrible. I've heard it got a lot better, but when I used it it was clunky for everything, lacked good time stretching, had very shoddy midi, no looping to speak of, and no built in VSTs.

This was a long time ago, and I think PT's largely become similar to other DAWs these days, but because they've been working on the basics for so long, I can't see them innovating, and they're behind other DAWs by a few years in most areas.

Looks pretty good to me. I just want to know if I can still use Logic as a front-end to Pro Tools hardware and get the best of both worlds. I thought I read somewhere that they removed that support in 8.3, but someone who know PT better than I would need to confirm that.

No you can't anymore.

I love going to the music store listen to all those guys still thinking poison rocks talking about pro tools. Man music stores are fun. I used to love going as a kid and just asking the guy at about an instrument and he would just hack away then I would play and make him feel that much worse about his life. OF course they were total dicks. Anyone that has ever been to Steves in Montreal will know what i'm talking about. The best part was just acting dumb like oh I didn't know I could do that. super cool. They get so pissed off.

Speaking of music stores, when I was 13, I used to steal like cymbals and . lol. By 15 , I had a really killer set. Yamaha maple custom, K cymbals, dw kick, worth about 6000. 1000 of which I some how forgot to pay for.
