Nobody could have guessed that electronic dance music would impact Nick Cenik's life the way it has over the past few years. As a kid living just outside of Toronto, Nick had no interest in the ever-expanding rave scene. But as the years went on and hip hop - his favourite music at the time - become more and more commercialized, a state of musical boredom set in. Then, on a spring 2006 camping trip, Nick experienced something that slowly but surely began his transition to a new form of music. Listening to tunes while packed inside a car with four not-so-sober girls, Nick heard Daft Punk's "Technologic" for the first time. Not overly impressed with the song at the time, Nick still found the fast-paced BPM and repetitive lyrics somewhat intriguing. A few days after the trip, Nick started an online search for similar sounding music, eventually coming across Microbe - "Xit 2 Nowhere [Full Intention Mix]" - the song that would go on to change his life. The track presented Nick with his first 'breakdown' and 'build-up': hearing the tune being stripped down to close to nothingness only to be reconstructed with tremendous energy and anticipation, Nick felt a music-inspired rush of 'shivers' that he had never experienced before. The feeling prompted him to feverishly search out similar productions and start compiling a new music collection. Over the next couple of years Nick's tastes progressed through various electronic genres; presently, he enjoys the more techno, minimal, deep, and tribal influenced sides of electronic dance music. This three-year long maturing of musical tastes is reflected in Nick's own productions. Although he started writing his own music relatively shortly after joining the scene, it wasn’t until late 2009 that Nick produced his first attention-grabbing release. That year Teggno Records released 'Knuts and Bolts EP Vol1', featuring Nick's bouncy tech house hit 'Drugs' – a tune which won the support of Toronto's own Deko-ze. In the summer of 2010 Nick's production work-flow underwent a major change after his friend and fellow producer Luis Sastre showed him a completely different approach to writing house music. The various new techniques embraced by Nick have allowed him to step up his productions substantially and attract the attention of better labels and bigger artists. In August 2010 Anthony Attalla’s powerhouse-label-in-the-making, Incorrect Music, released Nick’s stomping tribal/tech house bomb “1:42am”. The track is currently being supported by the likes of UGLH, MC Flipside, Three-Sixty and many of Toronto’s local ‘superstars’. In October 2010, Evolution Recordings released Nick's newest dark techno EP - "Plato's Demiurge v2.0". The Original Mix is currently being supported by techno superstars DYNO and Subfractal as well as many rising talents, including Matt Herdman, Justin James, and Kotov & Wilde. In mid-November, Nick’s second release on Incorrect Music – the Spanish tribal hit “No Hablo Español” – was released on the label’s BASIS IV compilation. Alongside many other artists, Italian superstar producer/DJ Pirupa is currently supporting this release. In early 2011, Nick’s remix of Double Depths' “Inutile” will be released by MC Flipside and Chris Vench’s new tech house label, DBR Recordings. In addition to music creation, Nick continues to focus much of his energy on perfecting his DJing skills and bringing his sound to clubs in and around the Toronto areas.
