Thanks for the tip. Unfortunately the next few times I'll be in Toronto will be weekends, but once I move back I was thinking of checking it out for lunch.
Also, with Mexican, I agree with you when I am looking for tacos, burritos etc. but the reason I've wanted to try fine dining Mexican is to try some of the entree dishes and not just tortillas + meat + cheese + pico de gallo + lettuce + sour cream in all sorts of combinations. I've been intrigued ever since Rick Bayless was on Top Chef and specialized in Mexican cuisine. |
Holy Lisa did you read my mind today??
I was trying to remember the guys name from that series that was on...
Great recipes but I wanted to smack his daughter...
Thanks for the name!! |

Way to say hello! I've only been there twice I think.
Lisa, if you go there, go Mon - Thurs - I went go once on a Friday and it was dead. Without people there is zero ambiance - not having any windows probably has a lot to do with that too.
I think the beauty of mexican is that it's not meant to be fine dining. the best mexican is usually from a little joint in kensington with plastic chairs or something along those lines. Fine dining mexican would seem really inauthentic to me. |
Finedining Mexican sounds like an oxymoron to me. |

I've made a few of the recipes from Rick Bayless' everyday mexican cookbook - yum! I really like el trompo in Kensington. |

I know the chef from Margaritas on balwin Street and I know hes one of the best chefs of mexican food in Toronto.
Im a chef myself and Mexican and Ive been to that place before and I know they have authentic mexican food....if you go and talk to the chef and ask him you wanna try real mexican food ..he will make a specail dish for you.
I KNOW HES THE BEST CHEF IN TORONTO AND HIS NAME IS RAUL CORONA |

I know the place you're talking about but I can't remember the name. Their taco entrees are usually made up of 5 small tacos that are delicious!!
I also agree with you that there are waaaay too many burger joints in Toronto. Not really complaining but they all follow the same format.
I'd like to see more diners similar to the ones featured on Diners, Drive-Ins & Dives. Any recommendations? |
