While I was living Australia, where the winters are relatively mild and everyone drives everywhere, I barely noticed the change of seasons. It's not as dramatic as that found in other climates, anyhow. Now in Germany and spending a lot more time on foot, I've become acutely aware of, and delighted by the seasonal transitions. Each morning over breakfast, I've watched carefully as a bush next to my kitchen window slowly sprouts flowers I didn't realise it had. It sounds soppy, but spring is a happy time of year, knowing that winter is finally over. I've come to understand why Northern Hemisphere-dwellers so often make mixes centred around the seasons. So essentially, I'm just re-hashing another cliched concept, but it's different because this feeling is a first for me. :p

Apart from that, my semi-unemployment has left me more time to pursue new music than I've had for many years. I originally had quite a large pool of tracks for this, including a lot of shiny new disco cuts. I battled half-way through, hated it, trashed the whole project. The next day I woke up, refined the concept and the pool, then everything just fell into place, with very little thinking required. The result isn't the funky, vocal-laden thing it was going to be. Instead, it's smooth and quite airy. Rather than my usual safe and boring energy build, I've also tried something a little different with the flow this time. I hope it's enjoyable. As ever, comments greatly appreciated.

The mix title means "spring feeling" or "spring fever". Pretentious, huh?

This is basically the reason why I disagreed with your point a while back that sounding original should be the only real aim of a musician. The concept of a seasonal mix isn't original, and perhaps one rendered through melodic techno isn't that original either. But you're coming at this from the angle of someone with a prog/psy mixing background and this set will probably sound different than something a techno DJ would concoct. So it's not conceptually original, but (hopefully, if you've got any of your own character about your work) it will have its own identity that won't be rehash of other executions of this idea. If an artist has got a strong methodology, distinctive tastes and a constant progression they'll create something with a unique stamp on it, without deliberately aiming to be different. Artists who pursue difference for its own sake are coming at it from the wrong direction, and their work usually lacks the foundations that give a piece any integrity.

Anyway, will give this a listen, obviously.

Nice bird sounds at the start there. I thought there was something new around that I didn't recognise the call for. Took me a minute :p
